What medications are used to treat Shingles in teenagers?
I got a case of Shingles in January of 2009. Fortunately, it was just on my left had and lower left arm. Hurt like hell and it took a while to subdue both the pain and skin condition. I did enough research to know that I was in for a long recovery at best. I walk my dog in the morning and have an orange tree in the back yard. About mid February, the oranges were ripe enough to eat so I grabbed one on a morning walk. As I peeled it, the orange oil from the rind covered my hands. I watched the redness on my hand begin to lessen and the pain begin to measurable subside. That relief lasted for about four hours. I took some orange peels with me to work in a baggie the next days and would spread the oil from the rind on as needed. As Shingles suffers know, the pain can return at anytime for some time to come. Each time it does, I head for the back yard, grab an orange and experience immediate relief. Give it a try and enjoy the orange after you peel it.
What do shingles look like and how do you tell if you have them?
It sounds like shingles. They are itchy but very painful, they effect the nerve endings. If you have had chicken pox or the vaccine it's possible that he now has shingles. If you have already had chicken pox or gotten your vaccine then you could have shingles
Is shingles or chickenpox airborne?
This is a layman's understanding of the situation. Shingles occurs in individuals who have already had episodes of chickenpox, sometimes many years prior to the shingles. The virus doesn't leave the system after the course of the original episode of chickenpox. The virus takes up residence in various parts of the nervous system, where it just remains completely harmless for most people. It is not clear what triggers an episode of shingles, but the virus will sometimes work its way down the nerves/neurons to cause an episode of 'shingles'. Shingles itself is not caused (at least directly) by exposure to an airborne virus. Chickenpox, however, can be transmitted as an airborne infection. Possibly, although rarely, an individual may become infected with chickenpox following skin contact with the virus, since it has high concentrations in the liquids in the characteristic body lesions.

Can shingles virus enter the brain?
Yes, unfortunately you can get it in your ear canal. Shingles[Herpes Zoster] wil cause blisters along nerve pathways, and I believe your tri-geminal nerve pathway is close to the ear, and also your eye. Don't be afraid to demand adequate pain medication. If you are over 60 and not currently infected, there is a vaccine called Zostavax which is supposed to reduce the risk of future out breaks. I have had Shingles and know how excruciatingly painful it can be. The vaccine makes me hopeful for newer better treatments. I had my Zostavax shot two weeks ago with no adverse effects so far. Good luck to you.

How many square feet in a bundle of roofing?
33' for 3 tab, 25' for architect
Actually, most three tab bundles only cover 32 sq feet. And architectural shingles cover about the same (it varies from manufacturer). But architectural shingles have less waste since there's no exact pattern to follow(unlike the slots in three tab shingles). You can save your scrap cut offs if they're 4-5" long. Owens corning shingles allow 4-5" offsets. You just have to be careful of your nail pattern. Oh, about that coverage, some 50yr shingles only cover 25sq feet, but most are 33 sq feet. Basically, one bundle for every sheet of plywood.

This depends on the type of viral infection and how long it is contagious. It is best to be on the safe side and try to stay away until your health care professional says that the person is no longer contagious.

Does shingles occur in people in their twenties?
Although shingles is NOT as common in teenagers, as it is in people over the age of 50, they can certainly become infected. The virus from the chicken pox lies dormant in the spinal cord, if any age child's immune system becomes weak, the virus can resurface in the form of shingles. It is noteworthy, that there is a link to excessive alcohol consumption and shingles. Teenagers tend to "experiment" with alcohol, and will overindulge. Recent studies have shown a direct link. My 17 teen old daughter recently stayed out all night, and was drinking. She came home the next AM (sick, and in trouble). Within 2 days, a blister was forming on her face, I immediately took her to her GP, sure enough, shingles....
