hello I actually own a sterlingworth fox 12ga double barrel shotgun did some research this company was bought out by Stevens arms I believe the gun was made in the early 1920's worth between 800-2,000 dollars depending on the model I acuquired this from a gun auction website that's what they were sellling for

Three questions for you: Are there any letters before or after the serial number? Are the any marking on the right side of the trigger guard? What type of gun is it? 92?

'I have a 12 gauge double barrel with the same marking. It also has an oval with a crown above it and 'ELG' as a marking that indicates Belgian. I will have my gunsmith have a look at it and see what they say..

I just bought one at a Pennsylvania gun show for $200. It is in excellent shape and I feel it is a poor mans model 12 Winchester. They were built extremely well ( no plastic or stamped parts. front of trigger guard safety,and great balance. Also saw a recent one on sale for$285 that had an accompanying 2nd barrel. I think they are great bargains in a used quality shotgun. I own about every other type of pump gun and feel the marlin 120 is right there in quality

I've been told that mine (in very good condition) was worth about $150.00 however, I just ran across an dealer's ad on the web which lists it as worth $360.00. My serial number is Hxxxx, which indicates, I've been told, that it was manufactured in 1950. It's nice, though a little heavy, and it's quite accurate in the 30-50 feet range.

$150-$400 (only goes that high if you can find a buyer who thinks a 410 is worth more than a larger gauge) I disagree. Depending on condition, older double barrels, even off brand ones, command a premium the smaller the gauge. Stevens 311A's in excellent condition are going for $400-$700 range. The Crescent Quail Hammerless would start at these prices and go higher. The Hammerless Quail with checkered walnut and splinter forend would begin at the $700 range if in 90-95% condition. Alot depends on the local market. In the southeast, .410 SxSs are going for high dollars.

You have to give a manufacturer or trade name and model before the serial number will tell you anything.

The library may have a copy of Gun Traders Guide, or the Blue Book of Gun Values, but it will likely be out of date. A more current means of establishing worth of everyday guns may be to check the on line gun auction sites, such as gunbroker, auctionarms, and gunsamerica. Search for the make and model of your gun, and specify CLOSED auctions. Look at the prices they actually sold for, not the high reserves with no bids.

I kind of have the same question. If you were to go to a public gun show, you could see similar guns and compare yours with theirs. Gun show guns are usually overpriced. If you want to see what its not worth go to a gun shop & have them make an offer. I had a gun expert look into this and asked a private Merkel owner give his opinion that at current time, the Over Under Merkel is under valued. Say a gun worth $7500 today would be worth $12,000 in a few years. Sorry so vague. If you find a solid answer plese let me know T
