J Stevens Arms & Tool Co was the barrel marking used from 1886-1916, so that's as close as we can get without knowing the model of the rifle. sales@countrygunsmith.net

Winchester made it for sears back in the 70's its an awesome gun and is the same model as the winchester 1200 just way cheaper, your not paying for the name

Not sure about yours but mine is priceless. It was my uncle's and it still fires reliably. Your probably looking at about a $100 if it's in half way decent shape.

It depends on which specific grade. Model 42's were produced from "Plain Jane" versions through special skeet versions with lots of engraving. Expect a plain one in good condition to be worth $1000, more elaborate versions could be worth $5000+.

I can't tell you the value, but assuming it is not the Feather Weight Model 1912 with the suffix 'F' after the serial number, your gun was manufactured in 1939. You will need to talk to a gun dealer about its value, or try the Ask The Experts forum at Gun Brokers.com at (http://www.gunsonthenet.com/). This is one of the most common configurations of the Winchester Model 12. Values range from as low as $200 for a very used condition up through $1000 for a mint-with-box example. sales@countrygunsmith.net

If it is not marked on the gun, you will have to measure it. The most probably calibers for an H&R revolver are .22, .32, and .38. A standard lead pencil will not go into the barrel of a .22, fit fairly well into a .32, and be loose in a .38, but don't run out to buy ammunition based on this estimation. Let a gunsmith or experienced dealer see the gun and recommend the proper ammunition (or recommend that it not be fired at all!). That patent date, alone, appears on the H&R Model 1 revolver, which is a single-action revolver with bird's head grip and spur trigger. It was chambered in both .32 Rimfire and .38 Rimfire. Depends. Stevens shotguns made before the Gun Control Act of 1968 would not necessarily have serial numbers, but some do. Generally found on the side of the receiver or behind the trigger guard.

Also, it can be found on the bottom of the the gun just before the break in front of the trigger guard possibly between the two screws.

Are you sure it doesn't say 'TEXAS RANGER'? We've seen single-shot shotguns marked with a 1929 date and the words 'TEXAS RANGER' stamped in the side of the receiver. These were early H&R shotguns made for Montgomery Wards made before World War II. sales@countrygunsmith.net Actually, the "Texas Ranger" was a name used on the Model 1929 12 guage single barrelled shotgun produced by J. Stevens for Montgomery Ward's, I am certain it was not produced by H&R for Ward's.

How about 50A instead of 504? These were made from the early 1960's to 1975. They rarely get over $100 even in top condition. sales@countrygunsmith.net

Skimin & Wood, gunmakers, was a very fine British gunmaking firm from the late 1800's through World War II. Your gun could be worth a few dollars, so it should be evaluated in person by a reputable gunsmith or collector for insurance purposes. Skimin & Wood guns were retailed by Abercrombie & Fitch and several London retailers, and were available in various degrees of ornamentation. They can be difficult to market in the US, since British ideas of double-guns are usually different than American. Also, be aware that Skimin & Wood chambered their shotguns for the 2" 12ga shell - designed to make a 12-bore gun that handled like a 20-bore. It would be marked as such, but you should still have the gun checked over by a competent gunsmith to make sure how your gun is chambered. www.countrygunsmith.net

If it is marked 'American Gun Company' on the sideplate, it would be worth $200 tops. Primarily considered as a mantle decoration and unsafe to shoot with modern ammunition. sales@countrygunsmith.net

Janssen Fils & Co if it has Belgian proofmarks or Crescent Fire Arms Co if it does not.

Double check that number, I cant recall any hypenated serial numbers on Ithacas. In any event, Ithaca 37's in 12ga, field grade, sell in the $150-$300 range. sales@countrygunsmith.net
