Utica Firearms Company: Trade name used by the Simmons Hardware Company of St. Louis, Missouri on firearms they retailed c. 1900. Yours is a bit unusual if it has damascus barrels but no exterior hammers. Shooters want fluid steel barrels, decorators want side hammers, and few collectors want hardware-store guns, so I'd say unusual is not a good thing. Even in NRA Excellent condition (98%+ original finish) I doubt if you could get over $200.

You have already identified it as a Shapleigh's King Nitro. Shapleigh Hardware was in St Louis Missouri from the mid 19th century until the middle of the 20th. Their King Nitro guns were manufactured by W.H. Davenport and later by Stevens/Savage.

i have been looking for literature on the same type shotgun. I have a savage springfield model 67d pump 12 ga.and so far have been unlucky in turning up any info. Good Luck

This pump shotgun is a 20ga w/ 28" barrel, round wood handguard and gold bead front sight. Ser # A496XXX. The outside is blued (Rust brown) with aluminum trigger guard.

Your Serial number indicates the born date of your firearm was May of 1970. This firearm was discontinued in 1988. Part and diagram can be obtained from Numrich Arms In West Hurly N.Y.

Probably Wyeth Hardware & Manufacturing Company, St. Joseph MO. Wyeth didn't manufacture their own guns. Most authors give credit to Crescent Fire Arms, but there must have been others after Crescent went out of business. And since Model 1929 was a Stevens gun and they bought the Crescent company, that would be my guess.

Hundreds of thousands of similar guns were imported from Belgium c. 1893-1913. Most were marked with trade names instead of the manufacturer's name. There is very little collector interest in these, so there has been little research into their origins. Many of the names have been documented to a US retailer or importer/wholesaler but very few of the makers have been identified. The laminated barrels were intended for black powder shells and modern ammunition should not be used. Although it may be priceless as a family heirloom, the usual market value is about $125-$150 as a mantle decoration.

Assuming it is a 12 gauge, fully functional, showing normal use, it would be worth about $200-250 retail.

I have same vintage of gun I was told not fire it. with shell from today. the twist barrel cannot handle the high pressure.I am also trying to find a value on these guns. paul mielke

He probably said Stoeger. I don't think they manufacture any guns, just import them from Europe and Japan. Dick's Sporting Goods sells them. You can probably find them in Garth's, Galen's, and Cabela's, too.

hi,i have a Springfield 16 ga pump,model 67 series B.In good condition its worth around $225 I have a 67 F 20 guage that had the original purchase tag when I bought it later on and it was originally bought new in the mid 60's. I have a Springfield Savage 410 pump and it's worth about $200.00.

Western Arms was just a name used by Ithaca in the 1930-1950 era (and maybe earlier by Bacon Arms?). The B with a cross above it sounds like a foreign proof mark, but I don't recognize it. From about 1885 to 1914 several million single shot and double barrel shotguns were imported marked with at least 1000 different names for various wholesalers and retailers. I don't recognize Western Boy as one I have encountered before, but I wonder if it could have been a mate for the American Boy sold by Townley Metal & Hardware Co.

This was a tough one to find. Only listing I have is in the Blue Book and it gives no details. Looking in the back of the book, I find that about 20,500 were manufactured 1940-1945. You might see if parts or diagrams are available from Numrich Gunparts if a local gunsmith can't help.

Rickard Arms Company: Trade name used on firearms made for the J.A. Rickard Company of Schenectady, New York c. 1900.

It should be priceless to you as a family heirloom. Unfortunately, it is not very valuable to the rest of the world. If it has a side hammer, it makes a good mantle decoration. If it is a back-hammer boxlock, it may still be a usable firearm, but the retail value for either is about $50-$75 unless it happens to be by one of the very top-of-the-line manufacturers.

Sears has a recall on some of their J C Higgins 12 ga and they will send you $165 just for the bolt if it is a bolt action shotgun. I had one and that's what they sent me.

Since the 9200 series seems to have been discontinued in 2001, I doubt if they are still making extra barrels, but it is possible. The gun was available with 18.5, 22, 24 (rifled and smooth), and 28" barrels. A gunsmith should be able to find some, or you can try contacting Numrich Gunparts.

A Damascus twist steel double barrel shotgun is an antique shotgun made by layering iron and steel and welding them together. This kind of shotgun is worth approximately $3,000 depending on the condition of the weapon.

Union Arms Co was a trade name distributed by H&D Folsom of New York c. 1900. I find sources that attribute these guns to Henri Pieper of Belgium and other sources say Crescent Firearms (owned by Folsom) of Norwich, CT. Folsom would order guns from whoever offered the best price at the time, so without some additional markings, it is impossible to say for certain who manufactured a particular gun. Crescent was by far the most prolific producer of these store-brand shotguns. There is a list of over 100 trade names found on Crescent guns in the Standard Catalog of Firearms. This list is still growing, and many of the names are also found on guns made by Davenport, Davis, Stevens, Iver Johnson, and others.

I can tell you that the pump guns are a very close "copy" of the very fine Remington model 31's and are a joy to use. One of the smoothest pumps ever made. Very good quality and available for very little money on the used market $100 to $200 dollars will buy most of them, the J.C. Higgins version (model 20) made for Sears is also a sleeper
