It's 24 hours door to door - I lived in Singapore as an ex-pat for over 3 years while working for an Oregon company. I made the trip (Oregon (PDX) to Singapore (SIN)) more than 15 times and each time it was a 24 hour trip under normal circumstances (i.e. no extraordinary airport delays).

There is approximately 3,918 miles between Sydney, Australia and Singapore. A flight would take about 8 and a half hours.

Due to the limited land spaces available in Singapore, majority of Singaporeans live in HDB flats. HDB flats are high rise flats which houses alot of apartments in a building. Apart from HDB flats, there are also condominiums and landed properties where it is more costly to afford.

Singapore is mainly made up of immigrants in the early days. Hence it grew into a multi-racial country now which consist of mainly Chinese, Malays, Indians and Eurasians. Alot of immigrants are migrating to Singapore too. Hence there are citizens from all over the world living in Singapore.
Besides, Singapore is an open economy which trade and do business with all over the world. Hence it is considered as an international city.
