Gun values vary widely depending on what model the gun is and what condition the gun is in. Guns that have been refinished generally lose much of their value to collectors so be careful before deciding to refinish an old gun without knowing its value. Springfield Armory and US military weapons are sought after by collectors though.

You could take the gun to a local dealer to start to get an idea what it is worth. A reputable dealer can discuss condition issues and point out positive or negative condition issues the gun has. The dealer will look it up in a 'blue book of gun values' of one sort or another. Be sure and tell them you are interested in an insurance value, because sometimes dealers will give you a much lower estimate of what they will pay for it (usually half or less.)

There was a long production line of 45/70 trapdoors in model 1873. To locate the year of production you must use the serial number of your trapdoor. The value depends on overall condition and if it's a carbine or rifle. The rifle value is est. $500 - 700 plus or minus. Carbines are $1200 and up.

1960's, Winchester 70 (Sears model 53) of the Ted Williams promotion series 30-06 for Sears. NOTE: Every one on the net incorrectly identify 273-1830 as serial number, but actually is a "lot number" that identifies this series as T.W., and that the actual serial number is hand scribed on the bolt and stamped on the right side of the barrel, at the larger ring portion, at the bullet base, such as; 106xx, early model. The Ted Williams version was made with better and darker wood with excellent finish, compared to the other pale woods. Exact type of woods, I can not recollect as to what they are.

I had a savage 24C it had a 20 ga. bottom barrel and a 22 cal. top barrel it also had a soft satchel type case , it shot well but the barrels didn't shoot in the same place. it was a good camp gun. well made, but i don't think the make them any more.
