Statue of Liberty

People have survived after falling from much higher heights, but I would not recommend trying it.

Three people have fallen or jumped from the Statue of Liberty. Two of them survived.

Frederick R Law became the first person to jump off the Statue of Liberty, doing so in February 1912. He gained permission from the of the army captain of Liberty Island prior to his jump. He leapt off the observation platform, 68m above the water, and used a parachute to land safely.

A second jump occurred in May 1923. Ralph Gleason was in the crown when he exited one of the windows. According to a witness, he turned around, seeming to want to return, but then slipped, falling to his death.

The last jump occurred in August 2001 when a French stuntman by the name of Thierry Devaux parasailed onto the Statue of Liberty. He intended to then bungee jump off the Statue, but after he jumped, his bungee cord became entangled in the torch of the gracious lady. Devaux hung from the torch for about half an hour, and following his rescue, he was arrested by the police.

The Statue of Liberty was brown, copper colored.

There are two copies in Paris: in the Jardin du Luxembourg and near the Pont de Grenelle; however, there are hundreds of replicas around the world.

The torch signifies enlightement and the tablet represents knowledge.

It is made up of an iron frame and coated with a copper sheet. The reason that it has the bluish-green tint is because of chemical reactions from water. Otherwise, it would have its original brownish-red tint to it.

Ferries to the island depart from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Liberty Island closes at 6 p.m. and the last ferry returns to Battery Park by 6:30 p.m.

A universal symbol of freedom and democracy, the Statue of Liberty also celebrates the international friendship of the United States and France. It was given to us as a gift from France. Built to commerate an alliance during the American Revolution, the Statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886 and designated as a National Monument in 1924. We could not have suceeded as well as we did in the Revolution without the aid of our French allies.

If a statue moves its not a statue therefore no statues don't move.

The seven original liberties that are enumerated in the Constitution and Bill of Rights are as follows: the right to a trail by a jury of your peers, the right to a trial in the state in which you are accused, a writ of habeas corpus, no bill of attainder, no ex post facto laws, no religious test for a government job, and when accused of treason, two or more witnesses must testify against you.
