There is a superstition that if a bird flies in the house someone in the house will die. There is absolutely no proof to back this claim up.

if your a plant then no! however many insects have a black colouration from melonin. the degree of "blackness" often shows its condition as a honest signal to potential mates but as caterpillars are a life stage that does not mate this will not be the case and may be a signal to would be prarsites. Usually harmful insects will have brightly coloured "skin" if they are dangerous and this is a sign to potential predators of such danger. Some people will say that. Some people may believe in owls as good luck. But other people may believe as owls as bad luck. But seeing owls in the daytime is a totally natural thing. They will be awake during the day if their home is disurbed.

It means you are seeing a red bird, periodically. Reality is far more wonderful than superstition, isn't it? A red bird. WOW!

If there were any truth to this superstition the profusion of birds flying into skyscrapers would be quite frightening.

The superstition started at a time when glass and by extension windows, were expensive and small. The likelihood of it happening was small and the correlation between the happening and a death more noticeable.

In my opinion yes. My aunt has recently died of a heart attack and for a week leading up to her death I noticed a lot of crows around. A group of about 15 when I was out walking was the most noticeable. I went to her house the day after she died and there were 3 on her roof. I made a point of looking on the roofs of all the other houses around but those 3 were the only crows around. I had never heard of this until my aunt had died and thought it was too much of a coincidence so looked it up on the internet. There are birds and crows around all the time, but there were so many crows it made me take notice. I've read a few posts on other sites which say that crows are scavengers and they may be looking for food, but my aunt lives 25 miles away and was fit and well until the day she died. I'm absolutely convinced the crows were a sign.

It really has no meaning except the bird made a bad mistake.

Not all things that happen have an omen or meaning, if the kind of bird is a significance to you personally, there MAY be a message in this. However it is more likely explained below.

At certain times of the day, light will refract on a window in such a manner as to reflect the sky and sometimes the trees outside, bird can be mislead by this image and thinking they are flying into the trees will instead hit a window. To reduce the chances of this happening again, see if you can obtain a Hawk silhouette to put on the widow, make sure it is made of a non reflective material and is on the outside of the window. This should stop future birds from making the same mistake.

Peacock feathers, specifically those acquired other than as a gift are generally unlucky to have in your home and very unlucky to have in your bedroom.

I would guess it depends on the bird, like a crow or an owl. Granted the poor thing just stuck in your garage and killed itself trying to get out. If you have a cat or a dog then think of it as a gift for the family!

Humankind has a need to explain things that happen, particularly things that go wrong (bad luck) and as patterns arise the people ascribe significance to them.

Superstitions come about when those happenings get passed from one small group (ie. a family) to a larger group (the town they live in and eventually the whole area).

Some of them have a strong basis in fact or just common sense - bad luck to walk under a ladder... there could be someone working above and something may fall on you.
