In researching this question I have found dozens of superstitions about hair in general and a few attributed to the colours. Here are a few:

- Fair-hair is said to be a sign of a weak nature.

- Dark hair is said to be lucky and foretell great strength and virility.

- Red hair is said to denote to a bad temper, but also a strong constitution. It is said to be lucky to run your fingers through red hair.

- People with straight hair are said to be cunning.

- People with curly hair are said to be of good temper.

- A cow-lick is said to be lucky.

- A woman who develops curls at her temples (when it was previously straight) should look to her husband's health.

- It is unlucky for a woman to comb her hair after dark if she has a relative at sea.

- Plucking grey hairs will only make more grow in their place.

An old superstition

However, the superstition of touching wood (or iron) as a counter to evil goes back centuries. There are various thought on the origin.

One says it comes from the touching of wood from Christ's cross as a protective talisman.

Another pre-dates Christianity in that both the wood of the oak and the ash trees were sacred to ancient pagans.

The touching iron comes from the old belief that iron will keep the "fairy folk" away from you, as iron will kill the fae.

There is also the "knock on wood" variation, which was originally done to wake the dryad who lived within the tree (wood).

Some people believe that a howling dog is a sign of death. This superstition has some truth in it. Dogs, with their good sense of smell, can often tell when an animal or man has died. When a dog howls, he may actually be smelling death. But this doesn't mean he can smell death before it happens.

Here are a couple of the more obscure ones:

- It is believed the thrush exchanges its legs for new ones when it reaches 10 years old.

- It is believed thrushes are born deaf.

Yes, I have one it makes me very lucky.

Black cats are lucky. They may cost a lot, I know, I have one, but they are worth it. People say they are bad luck but they are really not. I used to have bad luck and ever since I got a black cat I've had good luck and I still do. So, if you need a cat get a full black cat.

Well the worst way is if you break a mirror 7 YEARS!!!!!!!!!! bad luck or if you walk under a ladder bad luck or if you see a black cat and it pass in front of you or if you get bad karma or if you walk in a building with a unberila in a house

* Breaking a mirror will bring seven years of bad luck

* Walking under a ladder will bring bad luck

* Stepping on a crack in a sidewalk will break your mother's back

* Fishing for trout while sitting on a zebra backwards will cause your eyeballs to pop out.

If you are from Ohio or have connections/memories of Ohio. They are often considered to be a lucky charm. I carry one in my coat pocket, and it's brought me great luck.

Many cultures would say yes. Commonly elephant images should be upright, facing a door and if possible have the trunk raised for the maximum good luck.

So far what I have noticed every time I have changed my clock , for wares reasons, stye or not working correctly, broken. So every time I got new clock I end up moving home. Also every time i had to buy new watch I ended up changing the job - also what I have noticed - the better watch I bought the better job i got into :-) Back to clock. One I face-calling with my friend who has big family and big dog. they were looking to move as children needed separate rooms. few month they were struggling she was saying to me, nobody wanted accept family with dog- pets not aloud at that area. Then i noticed big wooden beautiful clock- as they family . I mentioned what an amazing clock.. Oh it is not working she says. Then I said well repair it and you might find house to move! ;-D she laughted.. said - it is only needs batteries changing, we looking for house for months.. then i said and how long you haven't changed batteries... hmm about same time when the decided to move lol . So she changed batteries next day or 2 can't remmebr. I said get it done you don't have nothing to loose lol. and they found and get accepted to house same month lol . This is my own life experience created superstition about clocks and watches. I haven't read or heard anything like that. I just came hear to search as today one brand new clock from customers package sloped of my hands and got smashed in peaces , thiking if this means anything. but I suppose I will have to wait and see. But currently I am going through HGV training looking to change job . I t is not watch and not my clock .. hmm .. lets see. I hope good things to come for me and you. I recumbent to buy good quality and expensive clock. as better clock or watch I bought the better changes came . Good Luck !!!

yes the victoreans were superstitious.that is because there was no tv or source of entertainment and therefore the people of the victorian era naturaly got involved in legends and suerstitions.
