Do you consider superstitions to be silly nonsense or do you think that some should be taken seriously?

Personally, I think superstitions are silly. I believe that everything happens for a reason and what happens to me is already predetermined. I believe that because I believe in God. There is nothing I can do (like walk under a ladder or spill salt) to change what is going to happen to me.

How do you get rid of bad luck in the home?

You can expel bad luck by several methods.

If you are familiar with the principles of Feng Shui, you can arrange furniture, mirrors, wind chimes, etc., to bring good luck into the home.

Another method is to thoroughly clean each room, followed by carrying a lighted candle through every room, claiming the space as your home and announcing that only godly spirits and good luck may dwell there. Welcome good luck and beneficent spirits according to your own religious / family traditions.

One final method would be to smudge your home with either sage or sweet grass, then sprinkle sea salt in every corner of each room and beneath each window. Bless and protect each doorway with olive oil, again claiming the space according to your own traditional faith.

Who was the first one to come up with superstitions?

Who knows. It was most certainly an early human as superstitions have been with us a long time. Superstitions can definitely be traced clear back to the Middle ages and very easily beyond as well back to at least the time of the Egyptians. Artifacts, art, and writings give us clues as to what ancient man was superstitious about. Most people today know of the silly superstition that people of Europe once had for the common cat. There is also the superstition that people held about sneezing, hence the reason we say "bless you" as a courtesy when people sneeze today.

The history of superstition can be very interesting.

This is an amazing question. Superstition has been part of the human experience since the very beginning. An in-depth study would surely show that superstition played a major role in the development and spread of the earliest religions.

Sometimes I have bad luck and sometimes I don't How do I get rid of the bad luck?

>rub on your cack for 20 minutes

That might feel good but it really won't help much.

We all have good and bad happen to us. This averages out for most people, and insurance companies make a ton of money off this simple fact. I was going to answer you and say that 'luck' is mostly how we perceive our circumstances, and it is, but then I realized that I do have a better answer for you.

The best way to improve your luck is to improve yourself. The easiest way to do this is to start telling yourself that you can succeed. Do it outloud if you have to. Whenever you have to do something challenging, something you have failed at, start by saying "I can do this". Do that EVERY TIME you do something challenging. Eventually that little voice in your head (don't worry, it's just you) will start telling you "You can do this! Here's how..." and it will lead you to success.

The second best way to improve is not to dwell on your mistakes. When you have "bad luck", something went wrong, right? Figure out what it was. Was it your fault? If so, figure out what you did wrong and think of a way to avoid making that mistake in the future. Plan for it, in every detail, and think of your plan whenever you start to feel bad about that mistake. Make a plan for that situation even if it wasn't your fault. Practice it in your head. Next time... you'll be ready.

Is it bad luck to believe in superstition?

1.the force that seems to operate for good or ill in a person's life, as in shaping circumstances, events, or opportunities:

1.

a belief or notion, not based on reason or knowledge, in or of the ominous significance of a particular thing, circumstance, occurrence, proceeding, or the like.

Using the following definitions, it is purely circumstantial on whether it is "bad luck to believe in superstition". It also depends on how you meant it. If you are asking "Is it bad luck to believe in superstition conceptually?", then directly I would say no but indirectly it is certainly a possibility. Belief in belief may not effect a behavior (and therefore a particular outcome in a given situation) very much but it may be a basis for another belief to develop that does indeed affect your behavior.

As for another possible interpretation of the question such as "Is it bad luck to believe in any particular instance of a superstition?", that would be totally based upon the context. It would depend on what the superstition is, to what degree it is believed and then upon the setting. A superstitious belief such as reading books is bad luck wouldn't be that much of problem if you lived hundreds of years ago and books weren't as common place as they are now. It would also be more detrimental if you were at a school or a library than if you weren't one. Also the degree to which you believe that books are bad luck, if you think they are just a minor thing and can easily overcome it and pass your English class would be an entirely different (and conceivably better) outcome than if you thought books were really evil and should be burned and therefore you went to your local public library and set it on fire.

To put it simply: Belief in superstition in general may not necessarily cause a bad outcome but may foster other superstitions that do affect said outcome more.

Belief in a particular superstition may affect the outcome of an event based upon the degree of belief, the setting (time and place) in which the belief propagates and then the subject of the superstitious belief.

What does a crow perched atop a Church's Cross represent?

There are an awful lot of superstitions about crows. In my collection I have found reference to them sitting in churchyards _ a sign of a funeral d-soon to come;

Crows leaving a woods en mass - upcoming famine.

Flying at one another - war;

Flocking together early in the morning and flying toward the sun - good weather for the day; Croaking and even number of times - also good weather;

Noisily active around water at dusk - bad weather; also if one croaks an odd number of times

Other than a general mention about numbers of crows I see nothing that indicates anything of note if one lights on the cross of a church.
