Why is reaction time important in swimming?
Hiya, im 14 and am a swimmer:) im guessing by response you mean like your reaction to diving and stuff? If you are, this is my answer..
I use different types of stratagies and activities to help improve my reaction to make it as quick as possible. This is the main activity i like to use..
Put a bottle down on the ground, or anything quite tall and easy to grip.. either do this with a partner or on your own, if on your own stand about a meter away from th bottle. If with a parter both stand a meter away facing each other. Bend your knees and keep your hands behind your back, get somebody to blow a whistle or say go and try and grab the bottle as fast as you can.
the only other advice i can give is to just keep practising..
I hope this helps x!
You might use this when swimming?
To swim is to move through water. People swim using their arms and/or legs. Swimming can be divided into several "strokes:" breaststroke, front crawl, butterfly, and backstroke being among them. The freestyle, in competition, is a swim race where you can swim any of the four strokes. Almost everyone chooses front crawl. Swimmers move through the water using the combination of other body parts. Swimmers need to be able to stay above water and sometimes be able to hold your breath for a long time. A person needs to be healthy if it wants to do it as a sport.
How many laps around a 16 foot round pool make a mile?
Well, actually if you attain the circumference of the collection of liquid by taking the diameter of 24 feet and multiplying it by pi which is approximately 3.14159265 you would come to an answer of 75.3982236 feet. And by taking the number of feet that exists in a mile which is 5,280 and divide that by the circumference you would get 70.02817504. Therefore we would have to proceed around the pool generally just under 71 times its simple math really, but this also does not include that we are traveling the vortex internally and not on the full exterior of the figure. so genuinely the fact is we'd have to go a slightly prolonged distance to achieve an exact mile.

Why are swimmers not allowed in swimming pools when there are thunderstorms?
No! That is VERY RISKY! See, if it's a lightning storm, lightning might come down and hit your rod as you cast it out. Also if you're fly fishing and stand in the water lightning might hit it and the electricity will go to your body. Another reason is that the storm might turn into a tornado! I'm sure you know how bad that is. And, if you still don't believe me, just last week in a terrible lightning storm a guy was walking home from fishing because it was raining. Later on it turned into a massive lightning storm. He ducked under a tree (bad idea) and the tree got hit by lightning which hit him too. At that very moment he died! I read that in the death section in my local newspaper. So once again don't fish during a storm EVER!
Why it's important to learn to swim?
The first and foremost reason is safety. The dangers that any open body of water presents particularly to the young is the most paramount reason. Children are still dying in Australia due to backyard tragedies. If a child can at least acquire the skills needed to get to the edge of the pool then they have a greater chance of survival.

(Incidentally, that would be over three times the total amount of gold mined since the beginning of human history)
If you were to estimate those numbers, It would be nearly 650,000 of gold.
When you are at a 70 ft pool how many laps for a mile?
It would take about 21.5 lengths (10.8 laps) to equal one mile.
One length of the pool is one lap. Webster's II, New College Dictionary gives this definition in regard to pools: "2.b. One complete length of a straight course, as of a swimming pool."
I think the confusion comes from a swimmer being "lapped", which is a different term with a different definition. As a competitive swimmer in summer, high school, and college, we counted 1 length as 1 lap no matter how long the pool, and never talked about "lengths of the pool" at all. My lap counters always counted down from 20 for the 500 and from 64 for the mile (in 25m pools). In the Olympics the 50m is one lap. But, the definition of a lap is not linked to any particular measurement; when you turn around, you are swimming a new lap.
Perhaps we can do away with the word "lap" and confusion by just talking about yardage/meters instead.
Although many swimmers consider two lengths (there and back) to constitute a lap. In reading and talking with many other swimmers, this is the common consensus. It is rare to find those who count one length as a lap. Just like in running, a 'lap' is once around the track, to your starting point. The same logic applies to swimming. A lap is when you reach your starting point again.
It depends on which pool you swim in. If it is a 25m pool then it will take 20 laps to finish but if it is in a 50 meter pool, which is Olympic size, it will be 10 laps to do 500 meters.
