Yes, Terry Fox was a Christian. There is a sign at Pelican Lake in Ninette, Manitoba that shows where he was baptized. I saw an interview with him in the year he died and he said through his illness his faith had gotten stronger.

Terry Fox began by dipping his right leg in the Atlantic Ocean at St. John's, Newfoundland on April 12, 1980. He intended to dip it in the Pacific Ocean when he arrived in Victoria, British Columbia. He also filled two large bottles with Atlantic Ocean water; his plan was to keep one as a souvenir and pour the other one into the Pacific. He also intended to fill another jug of water with water from the Pacific Ocean.
According to the Wikipedia article on his name, although Terry Fox did complete part of the journey, his cancer returned. He had to be forced to end his run after 143 days and after less than 6000 km of running.
His Marathon of Hope was from one side of Canada to the other(from St.John's Newfoundland to Victoria, British Colombia).
Yes, Terry Fox is a symbol of Canada. Because he ran for cancer and that shows that he has strength and knowledge. Even all the schools in Canada have participated in it to raise money for The Terry Fox run/walk fund when Terry died.
