I'm not exactly sure of what you are talking about, but the thing I think you saw was a Poe you can defeat these by using your senses as a wolf. I don't think that you can defeat this poe at this moment until you get the ability to transorm into a wolf at will.
There's no solid evidence that Link is truly in love with Midna or not. It's a huge debate among fans though, because of a fews in-game hints, but has yet to be confirmed. At the end of it all it's all truly based on opinion though.
