Were all the deaths in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre real?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No, it's a pure work of fiction. Despite the disclaimer at the beginning of the movie that it's based on a real story, this is itself a fiction, designed to make it look like it's a drama-documentary and probably used as a ploy to get more people to go and see the film.

The movie, along with Psycho which was released in 1960, was based upon the case of Winsconsin farmer Ed Gein, a psychotic maniac who was convicted of murdering two women in 1954 and '57, was suspected of killing three more whose remains were never found, and who exhumed the bodies of other people from local graveyards in order to make clothing and keepsakes from their bones and skin- one such was his own mother Augusta. He ate some of his victim's body parts, kept their bones and other remains around his house, and kept their disembowelled torso's hanging in one of his outhouses. But he didn't use a chainsaw to kill them, he shot them instead with a .22 calibre rifle. Gein died in a Madison mental hospital in July 1984 aged 77, of a heart attack brought on by cancer.

But no 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' ever happened in real life.

Are they going to make a lollipop chainsaw 2?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There certainly is the possibility for it to be done, either for the original line of films, or even quite possibly for the new line of films. This is doubly true for the original films, because they never used the same Leatherface aside from the original and its sequel…after the sequel, the Leatherface's shown were members of the same family, but not the original killer from the first two films.

The story behind the story is that the original Leatherface's real name was Bubba Sawyer, and his entire family is partly to moderately insane to begin with, and a dormant and murderous personality comes to the surface when a member of the Sawyer family puts on a mask made of human flesh. This is the explanation in the beginning of "Leatherface", which is the third film of the originals. So with this rationale, the murderous personality that is Leatherface will never die so long as the family line continues.

The remakes could go on as well, but with Thomas Hewitt having had his right arm cut off, I find it unlikely…but I'm sure that they could twist the plot somehow.

Where can you watch Texas chainsaw massacre the beginning?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is not real, it's just a horror movie. And Leatherface is not real too because he's a fictional character based on Ed Gein, The Butcher of Plainfield. And the movie is on Texas by it's name.

What happened to the survivor of the Texas chainsaw massacre?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It never says. But considering what she went through, she probably spent many years of her life after in a mental institution, on very heavy medications, or in daily therapy sessions.

I believe that at the beginning of Chainsaw Massacre 2 it mentions that she died in a mental hospital in 1983. The character's name was Sally Hardesty, and she was played by Marilyn Burns.

Who survived in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

For clarification: the only people who survived or died in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre are the fictional characters in the movie. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre never happened in real life. It's fiction. See the Related Question.

The only character who survives in the original film is Sally. She gets rescued at the end by a guy driving by in a pickup truck. As the truck drives away, she watches Leatherface swing his chainsaw around in futile frustration, as she laughs insanely and hysterically (she is obviously quite traumatized and not in her right mind).

Is Texas Chainsaw Massacre scary?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Driving through the backwoods of Texas, five youths pick up a traumatized hitchhiker, who shoots herself in their van. Shaken by the suicide, the group seeks help from the locals, but their situation becomes even more surreal when they knock on the door of a remote homestead. It's quickly apparent the residents are a family of inbred psychopaths, and the unlucky youths suddenly find themselves running for their lives. In hot pursuit is a disfigured, chainsaw-wielding cannibal known as Leatherface.

Was Leatherface based on Ed Gein?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre is only loosely based on Ed Gein. The main villiain, "Leatherface" wears a mask made from human skin (as did Buffalo Bill in "Silence of the Lambs"), which is one of the items discovered in Ed's Wisconsin farmhouse when he was arrested. Along with several face masks, Ed also made leggings, chest pieces, and had an assortment of female vulvas all from the flesh of corpses and victims. Ed did not use a chainsaw to dismember his victims, just large knives and chains.

Is the chainsaw massacre still alive?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Although The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was touted as a true story, it really isn't. It was merely inspired by a true story. There is a big difference.

In the words of another answerer, "The true parts are: there is Texas, chainsaws are sold there."

The creators had heard the Ed Gein story. Gein, from Plainfield, WI killed several women on his remote farm and made furniture and clothes out of the bodies. Gein was found insane and lived the rest of his life institutionalized until his death in the 1970s.

Gein also inspired the book Psycho that was later made into a hit movie by director Alfred Hitchcock in the 1960s. Gein was also the inspiration for the Buffalo Bill character in The Silence of the Lambs. And both The Silence of the Lambsand Psycho are fictional stories too, just like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has about as much truth in it as Psycho and The Silence of the Lambs: almost none. A few tiny grains of fact do not a true story make.

So, the only true part of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was that Ed Gein wore the skin of his victims like clothing, decapitated and disemboweled them before hanging them up in his house, and may possibly have eaten some of their remains.

Ed Gein merely sparked the idea for a fictional story (three fictional stories, rather). Neither The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, nor Psycho, nor The Silence of the Lambs are "based on a true story." They are merely inspired by one.
Movies are not actually alive, however much they may come to life on the screen.

Why is Texas Chainsaw Massacre rated r?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Its one of the most scariest movies of all time it didn't have that much blood or gore but nobody ever said you need that to make a scary movie the reason why is because its so realistic and just very disturbing to watch its not about zombies or vampires or guys with machetes with a hockey mask or a guy who kills you in your dreams or a killer doll its about a crazy pychopathetic family that are both just plain out weird and sadistic it doesn't matter if the movie is something that actually happened or not but the fact that it could happen.

Who was the real Texas Chainsaw Massacre killer?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Leatherface is a fictional character.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre never happened in real life. Despite the disclaimer at the beginning of the original film, which touts the movie as "...an account of a tragedy which befell a group of five youths...For them an idyllic summer afternoon drive became a nightmare...This video cassette is based on a true incident and is definitely not for the squeamish..." in truth The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was not really based on a true story.

The filmmakers just wanted people to think it was a true story, so more people would go see the movie. It was also a bit of a joke on their part, to see if people would believe it was real. This is not an unheard-of tactic: for example, the 1999 movie the Blair Witch Project was also touted as a true story by the filmmakers, when in truth it is completely fictional and all the actors in it are alive and well to this day. The disclaimer at the beginning of the 1996 movie Fargo also asserts that it is a true story, when it is actually pure fiction.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was inspired by a true story, which is a long way away from being based on a true story. The truth is that the director, Tobe Hooper, got the idea for the Leatherface character from the real case of the serial killer Ed Gein. The rest is completely fictional. Ed Gein was only one man; he did not belong to a family of chainsaw murderers, and he lived in Wisconsin, not Texas.

Ed Gein murdered at least two women, one of whom was found hanging disemboweled and decapitated in his house, and also allegedly engaged in necrophilia and cannibalism with his victims' corpses. He did not, however, murder them with a chainsaw.

I have included a link to the snopes.com page about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I have also included a link to a page that compares the Ed Gein murders to the movie.

What year did Texas Chainsaw Massacre really happen?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre never really happened. There has never been a chainsaw massacre in Texas committed by a family of deranged cannibals.

Director Tobe Hooper did borrow one or two small details from the real life serial killer Ed Gein, but that is not the same as being a true story.
