First of all they are Stripes, not strips- Stars and Stripes forever! The probably evolved as did the Tiger"s stripes, as a form of natural camouflage, blending into the environment. there is also a Leopard shark. I always thgoht the Tiger shark was so-called just because of its voracisous apetite or wildness, but it has stripes as well.

I've lived on Knotts Island for about 23 years. I've fished all over the sound. While I've never seen a shark out there I've caught skates and rays, so I guarantee they're there. Bull Sharks are common off the coast and they get along well in waters like the Currituck Sound (fresh or brackish). They've been found in freshwaters all over the world. Used to swim out there when I was a kid but I don't now. Chances of ever meeting a shark anywhere are slim but I don't like what I can't see. They're out there...

Adaptations can only be in behavior. Physical attributes are defined by genetics which means, they are what they are. They aren't adaptations. They can be physical traits of survivors.
