Has a white man ever been fastest man in the world?
Interesting question.
If you mean has a white man ever held the World record for the 100m then yes. Was the holder faster than a man who was not white - don't know.
Yes when African or africanamerican men were not allowed to compete in the Olympics. there was a white man who was the fastest! there will be a white man in the future who will possess the title of the fasted white man in the world. 40 in 4.1 and 100 in 9.875. . which is a accomplishment While there will be man of color 3.99 in 40 and 9.12 in the 100 in the future since Africa is hosting the soccer championship in 2010. in my opinion.

What are some ways to increase your track and field running speeds?
To run faster, you have to practice at faster running speeds. No shortcuts, just good ole hard work?
One of the very best ways to improve running speeds is hill running. Run up hills, walk down, repeat. These build the strength you need for faster running without the wear and tear arising from high speed.
If you want to add weights to your running training, a weight vest provides many benefits.
What is the world record for the 1600?
Svetlana Masterkova holds the world record for the Mile run at 4:12.56 which is 9.35 meters longer than the 1600. Her mile time is more than three seconds faster than the second best ever. Additionally Masterkova was known for winning her races from the front, rather than sprinting for the finish, so it is impossible any other individual could have arrived at the 1600 meter mark ahead of her adjusted mile time or even her actual mile time.
What is a heat in a track and field meet?
A 'heat' is a preliminary race in a running event where the the top 2 or 3 finishers qualify for another race and the others are eliminated. For example, if there were 32 entrants in a 100 meter dash race, you could have 4 'heats' where the first two finishers in each heat would qualify to run in the final race where the winner would be considered the winner of the 100 meter dash for that competition.
How much time should i add on to 60 meter hurdle time to convert to 110 meter hurdle?
You should multiply your 60-meter time by 11/6 or 1.833 . That'll give you a
rough estimate of the time to expect for 110 meters, if the hurdles are spaced
the same, and if you can keep up the same speed for 83% more distance.
How do you know when you have shin splints?
"Shin splints" is more of a symptom that could be caused by several conditions than a specific condition itself. Pain or discomfort in the front lower leg when running or jumping are a good indication of this type of condition. Putting pressure on the muscles next to the tibia (shin bone) will produce discomfort or pain. Take two fingers and apply firm pressure as you slide your fingers along the tibia where the bone and muscle meet on the medial (inside) and lateral (outsided) sides of the tibia (shin bone). If you feel pain in any of these areas it is likely that either the muscle is pulling away from the bone in microscopic tears or that you have small stress fractures along the tibia.
Although wearing neoprene sleeves on the lower legs and certain taping methods can relieve some of the discomfort in the lower leg commonly referred to as "shin splints," the only real treatment for shin splints is rest and ice. Ibuprofen or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories can help reduce inflammation and speed up recovery. A good supplemental intake of calcium, Vitamin C, glucosamine, chondroiton, and MSM will ensure that your body has the materials it needs to repair itself.
Shin splints are usually used to describe the pain and discomfort associated with the tibialis anterior muscle being torn off of the tibia because of a strength imbalance between this muscle and the soleus and gastrocnemius. To recover, the athlete should rest and apply ice to the affected area of the shin in 20-30 minute segments as often as possible. The athlete may return to exercise after the area is no longer sensitive to pressure along the tibia, the athlete can perform lower leg stretches without discomfort, and a light jog is shown to produce no pain or discomfort. The recovery period will usually take 2-3 weeks, but this can vary greatly among athletes.
To prevent shin splints from reoccurring, or to prevent them from ever occurring in the first place, one should engage in an exercise program that targets strengthening the tibialis anterior directly. This short video shows a simple exercise that is very effective in preventing shin splints.

Why do athletic runners nascar horseracing run counter clockwise?
Well, I do not know the whole detail to this question but can give some insight. The reason why baseball players run the bases counter clockwise along with NASCAR, INDY, horse racing, dogs, running counter clockwise etc., has a lot to do with the American Revolution. Early Americans hated the British so much they wanted to do almost eveything opposite to their rules. In England and Europe, they run car and horse races clockwise, and I think Cricket runs clockwise as well, although they do not have a diamond like American Baseball. Hope that helps!

When was the six minute mile run time barrier broken?
Roger Bannister was the first man to break the four minute mile. He did it in May, 1954 at a meet in England, I believe with a time of 3:59.4. He was running with others that also had the potential. I guess you could say that the conditions were just right for him to break the record.

Last year I ran the 800 (was 14) and was running consistant low 2:30s, however it varies on what kind of runner you are (sprinter/distance/etc) and what kind of shape you're in. Best of luck
When i was 14 I ran 1 minute and 37 seconds and was the fastest in my league. 2:30? PA - THE - TIC!
Relax the question wasn't asking whats a great time for the 800 it was asking average. Most 14 year old girls won't be hitting guys times. That was rude and unnecessary.
Besides.

Can a short distance runner become a long distance runner?
There are two different types of muscle fibers which are beneficial to short distance runners or 'sprinters' and long distance runners - fast and slow twitch fibres.
Short distance runners benefit from fast twitch fibers which contract the muscles more quickly enabling them to run at speed. These muscles can be speed up with training (weights). They also train to run without oxygen in their muscles or anaerobically - 100m runners run the distance with one breath of air!
Long distance running is really about endurance and developing stamina. This requires long training runs because the muscles need to be able to develop a long term and more efficient way of converting energy for the body whereas the sprinter needs to develop the quick release of 'explosive' energy - imagine throwing alcohol on one fire to release the energy in it and then putting charcoal on it. They will both burn and release energy but at different rates.
Training can condition this but people are generally suited physically to one or another.
To answer your question specifically - generally speaking not as effectively, e.g. when Seb Coe, an 800m/1500m Olympic champion and World record holder ran a marathon he recorded a time of around 2hr 50min.
Emil Zatopek won the 5000m, 10000m and the marathon in the same Olympics but al these races are medium - long distance.
Incredibly, typically, a 100m runner can run the 200m but struggles with the 400m!!!
An 800m runner can run the 1500m - Ovett, Coe, Cram etc. but struggles with 3000m.
It depends whether you are in competition or not.
So in short I'd say that for events in the following categories concentrate on one area:
1. 100m-400m
2. 800m-3000m
3. 5000m - Marathon.
Whichever you do have fun - that's what it's all about!

What do track umpires do in track and field events?
They make sure that everyone follows the rules, and blows an annoying whistle.
It depends on who you are. I'm a 50 year old man, trying to reduce my time from 60 minutes this Spring to 50 minutes before the end of the year. For me, 50 minutes would be great. When I was in my late teens and early twenties, an under 40 10K would brand you as a serious runner, and I got close at 41 minutes. I did a marathon that same summer in 3:44. My 20 year old son, who is trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon, has never run a 10K in over 40 minutes. For him, over 40 minutes is bad.
