Train Travel

You have a total of five options (four in Manhattan, and one in The Bronx):

1) Take the 6 train to 14th Street-Union Square.

2) Transfer at 14th Street-Union Square to the westbound (Manhattan-bound) L train.

3) Take the L train one stop to 6th Avenue (at 14th Street).

4) Transfer at 6th Avenue & 14th Street to the Uptown F or M trains.

5) Take the Uptown F or M to 42nd Street-Bryant Park.

6) Transfer at 42nd Street-Bryant Park to the D.

1) Take the 6 train to 59th Street.

2) You can transfer from the 59th Street Station on the 4-5-6 to the F train at 63rd Street-Lexington Avenue (however, note that you will have to pay two separate fares, unless you pay by Metrocard).

3) Take the Downtown (Manhattan-bound) F train from 63rd Street-Lexington Avenue to 47th-50th Street-Rockefeller Center.

4) Transfer at Rockefeller Center to the D train.

1) Take the Downtown 6 train to Bleeker Street.

2) From the Downtown 6 only (NOT the Uptown 6) you can transfer from the Bleeker Street Station to the Broadway-Lafayette Station.

3) Get the D train at Broadway-Lafayette.

1) Take the 6 train to 51st Street.

2) Transfer at 51st Street to the Downtown(Manhattan-bound) E train.

3) Take the E train to 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal.

4) Transfer at 42nd Street-Port Authority to the Uptown Aor C trains.

5) Take the Uptown A or C to 59th Street-Columbus Circle.

6) Transfer at 59th Street-Columbus Circle to the Dtrain.

1) Take the 6 train to 125th Street in Manhattan.

2) Transfer at 125th Street to the Uptown 4 train.

3) Take the Uptown 4 train to 161st Street-Yankee Stadium.

4) Transfer at 161st Street-Yankee Stadium to the Dtrain.

Take the Uptown E train (of the A-C-E, the blue line) from 34th Street-Penn Station to 5th Avenue-53rd Street. Then walk 1 block west on 53rd Street to 6th Avenue.

You'll know which way is west because 5th Avenue is the dividing line between the West and East Sides. So on the west side of 5th Avenue, the street sign will say "West 53rd Street," while on the east side of 5th Avenue, it will say "East 53rd Street."

It's pretty simple. Take the Downtown A or C (of the A-C-E, the blue line) from 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal to Fulton Street.

You'll exit the subway at or near the corner of Fulton and Nassau Streets. Walk east on Fulton Street until you get to the East River. You will know you're walking east because the next street you'll reach will be William Street. If you walk one block on Fulton Street and end up on Broadway, then you have walked west, not east.

Well, it depends on whether you're going to West 28th Street or East 28th Street. If you're going to West 28th Street, then you just take the Downtown 1 train (of the 1-2-3, the red line) ONE STOP, from 34th Street (Penn Station) to 28th Street. You will exit the subway at West 28th Street and 7th Avenue, on the west side of the street (the west side of the street is the Downtown side, and the east side of the street is the Uptown side).

DON'T take the Downtown 2 or 3 trains, as they are express trains and will not stop at 28th Street.

If you're going to East 28th Street, it's a bit trickier. There are two options, depending on how far east on 28th you need to go.

1) Take the Uptown 1-2-3 (the red line) or the Uptown A-C-E (the blue line) ONE STOP, from 34th Street (Penn Station) to 42nd Street (Times Square). On the 1-2-3, the 2and 3 are express trains, and on the A-C-E, the A is an express train. But all six of these trains (the 1, the 2 and the 3, and the A, the C, and the E) stop at 42nd, so it doesn't matter which one you take.

Also note that the A-C-E line does not stop at Times Square, exactly. The A-C-E line runs up and down 8th Avenue, while the 1-2-3 and the Times Square Station are at 7th Avenue. You can still transfer from the A-C-E to the Times Square Station, however, you will have to walk through an underground tunnel to get there. The underground tunnel connects the A-C-E line to the Times Square Station.

So, if possible, it is preferable to take the 1-2-3 from Penn Station to Times Square, to save yourself the walk.

2) At the Times Square Station, transfer to the Downtown N, Q or R trains (of the N-R-Q-W, the yellow line), UNLESS you are traveling between 11 PM to 5:30 AM. The R train does not stop at 28th Street from 11 PM to 5:30 AM, so you can only take the N or Q during those times.

3) Take the Downtown N, Q or R two stops, from 42nd Street (Times Square) ---> 34th Street (Herald Square) ---> 28th Street.

4) You will exit the subway at 28th Street and Broadway, which is smack in the middle of Manhattan, but closer to the East Side.

1) Again, take either the Uptown 1-2-3 or the Uptown A-C-E ONE STOP, from 34th Street (Penn Station) to 42nd Street (Times Square).

2) At the Times Square Station, transfer to the S shuttle train (color code grey) east across 42nd Street, from Times Square (West 42nd) to Grand Central Station (East 42nd).

3) At Grand Central Station, transfer to the Downtown 6 train (of the 4-5-6, the dark green line). Take the Downtown 6 train two stops, from 42nd Street (Grand Central) ---> 33rd Street ---> 28th Street.

4) You will exit the subway at East 28th Street and Park Avenue South.
