Do vines kill trees?

Yes. We have just bought a piece of property with pecan trees surrounded by hugh 8" thick P. Oak vines. Hugh limbs are beginning to die & fall off the trees. We are just beginning to fight it by cutting the biggest vines with a chain saw. Also trying to get the roots out of the ground. Then we will paint what's left, that we can reach, with brush-b-gone or something similar. We do not want to kill the trees. That's why we will paint on treatment instead of spraying it.

Do I need 2 types of cherry trees to produce edible cherries?

That depends on what variety of tree you have. 'Stella' is a self-fertile type - which means you would only need one. It is also an excellent pollinator for many other varieties. 'Sunburst' is also self-fertile, as is 'Morella', although that is the sour cherry. If you are short of space, small varieties are available. So, if you can only fit one normal sized tree, get one that is self-fertile. If you can fit more, then a self-fertile one is still an excellent choice for one of them, as it will pollinate the other if carefully selected, and ensure you still will have a productive tree if the other non-self fertile tree dies.

Something to consider when growing your own cherry trees. Sweet Cherry's will bloom early. So if you have a late heavy frost or freeze you will loose most of your sweet Cherry's whereas if you grow sour or tart cherrys(which make better pies) they bloom later missing the late freeze or frost.

Whats the root system like of a 30 year old Female Arizona Ash tree?

I just planted an Arizona Ash about six months ago. I've been looking around on the Internet for information about it, and from what I've read, they only live 40 years or so and they're roots are shallow and widespread. I've read that most trees have roots like that, so if it hasn't caused problems with cracking your walk or driveway, maybe all will be well. Hope that helps.
