The trombone is pitched in concert C, but this is undoubtedly not the most common key. Usually, any band trombonist will play often in Bb, but as the musician matures any key is possible. Orchestras are fond of sharp keys, especially A or G.

There are pictures of him taken in the 50's using Conn 44H. During the 50's and part of the 60's he used a Conn 6H. For a time in the late 60's/early 70's, he used an Earl Williams Model 6. Then he started to play a Bach model 12, occasionally using a slide of the model 8. He also owned a King (I thought it was a 2B) and an Edwards model T302 in yellow brass (although I think he seldom used them). In the last years he played with the same Edwards model T302 with a sterling silver bell. He used a Bach 11C mouthpiece most of the time, but had a large collection of different mouthpieces, mostly in the 11C range. He owned many, many Bach 11C's from different eras - his favorites marked with numbers so he knew which was which. He also owned the mouthpiece custom made by John "Peppy" Pettinato made for Bill Watrous, which was marked "PHD S4 WRW"

You mean as in "Viva la vida?" If so, viva la vida means, "Live the life." So, judging by that statement, hopefully you can understand what viva la means.

"Viva la vida" means "live your life".

The frequency range for the most commonly played notes on the trombone is 82.41 Hz (E2 or "low E," just below the bass clef staff) to 466.16 Hz (Bb4 or "high B-flat," fourth ledger line above the bass clef staff).

Of course, the upper range of any brass instrument is largely decided by the ability of the player.

The lowest notes (the pedal notes) on the trombone begin at Bb1 ("pedal B-flat") or 58.27 Hz and extend down to E1 ("pedal E") or 41.20 Hz.

Although the term orchestra, meaning a group of musicians performing together, dates back to Ancient Egypt, the modern orchestra we would recognize today dates back to about the 17th century with the popularity of opera and public concerts. Prior to this, groups of musicians would be found only in the houses of nobilty so that they might provide entertainment to guests.

By comparison, the trombone has been around since the mid 15th century.

So, you might ask, "who introduced the orchestra to the trombone?"

This greatly depends on the condition of the gun, the grade of the wood used for the stoch and forearm*, if the wood is original and not cut or shaved and if it has the oiginal but pad. Grade of wood and condition are also very subjective. With a 12k serial number it was made around 1937. To make a very complicated answer short - if the gun is 80% (very good condition) is all original, with grade I wood*, it can be worth up to about $2500. * Does not refer to the condition of the wood but the grade or grain and coloration. The grade of the wood and engraving on the gun were usually matched, in this case Grade I, but that was not always true because of custom orders.

* You have to use your lips to get to a low, low Eb in 3rd position, unless if you have a bass Trombone.

* 3rd position sharp means to put the slide in between 2nd and 3rd position.

Snce they are two octave scales, some of those notes are waaay high and you might not be able to reach them.

The instrument that preceded the trombone in history is actually the trumpet. However, it's not the trumpet you see today.

Trumpets made from animal horns, shells, and hollow bones date way back to 3000 BC. Trumpets were found in King Tut's tomb. The Romans and Greeks used trumpets.

By the early 15th century, innoators found that they could cut a straight trumpet in two and then, by fitting the two sections together in a telescoping fashion, create a horn that could change its fundamental pitch. The slide trumpet was born.

By the mid 15th century, we find the now familiar curved parallel-tube that became the trombone.

The 1920s was called various names such as "The Jazz Age," the Age of Intolerance," and the "Age of Nonsense." But perhaps the most telling was the "Roaring Twenties." It was the beginning of modern America, in politics, arts, customs and fads, literature, sports, etc. Americans felt a relief following the Great War. The nation had survived the deadly worldwide influenza epidemic of 1918. The Twenties was a time of change for just about all the population. Youthful "Flapper" women provoked the older generation by smoking in public, wearing brief skirts, bobbed hair styles, and the use of lots of makeup. New fads included the Charleston dance, dance marathons, flagpole sitting, and flying stunts in the new airplanes. The affordability of radio provided entertainment in the living room. Many sports became "spectator sports" with Baseball and Babe Ruth perhaps being the biggest. Business continued to grow and outward appearances seemed to indicate no slowdown in site. More new products were developed and the consumer was given the opportunity to buy these products "on time." Government seemed unwilling to try too much regulation for fear of upsetting the economic boom.

A common toilet plunger can be used as a cup mute or a wah-wah mute. In a sticky situation it can mimic the sound of a straight mute if held very tightly to the bell, but it doesn't sound quite like a straight mute would.

While Spike Jones did have a hit song (Der Furher's Face) that was also made into a Disney cartoon, the Firehouse Five (+2) was started independently by Disney animators and associates, first with leader Ward Kimball on trombone, Clarke Mallery on clarinet, Frank Thomas on piano, Ed Penner on bass sax and Jim McDonald on drums, the group billed itself as the Hugageedy 8 and later as the San Gabriel Valley Blue Blowers. Eventually they picked up Johnny Lucas on trumpet and Harper Goff on banjo. Other musicians played with the group over the years.

It was renamed Firehouse Five Plus Two in the early 1950s.
