Where did the trombone originate from?

The Trombone originates from the sackbut- an instrument from the baroque era (pre 1700's). It would have probably originated from a type of hunting horn or early, very simple trumpet. It was developed over time into the instrument it is today, and became most like the trombone we know today in the romantic period.

What is the difference between a bass trombone and a trigger trombone?

A baritone horn looks somewhat like a miniaturized tuba. A bass trombone is still a trombone, but slightly larger. It also has an F trigger, which opens up more tubing near the bell of the trombone and changes the note. This allows players to reach the range from a low E flat to a low B, which is physically impossible on a tenor trombone. Some bass trombones also include another trigger, G flat, which can be opened separately or in combination with the F trigger.

Can trombone lubricant be used for trumpet?

Most professionals do not use slide oil, but instead use a two-part liquid called Slide-o-Mix (costs about $16), followed by a squirt of plain water. It makes your slide move smoother, it lasts longer, doesn't smell bad, and doesn't leave the oily residue.

That $16 bottle of magic is $2 worth of cold creme which you could use with a water spray.

What type of genre does the trombone most play in?

It depends really. Trumpet, Trombone are in symphonic bands, orchestras, and jazz bands, while as the rest are used for just symphonic or orchestra. If you specified it would be of greater help to answer.

How do you play a sixteenth note on trombone?

Sixteenth notes are a matter of rhythm. If you have a number four at the bottom of your time signature there are four sixteenths to each beat. If you have a six at the bottom of the time signature there are six to each dotted-quarter note beat or two to each eighth note beat, and so on and so on.

Can a Trombone have valves?

Yes.

There is an instrument called a "valve trombone", which basically looks like a trombone except that the slide doesn't move and there are three valves near the mouthpiece that look a lot like trumpet valves. In fact, trumpet players are often asked to play valve trombone in middle and high school jazz bands when no regular trombone players are around to fill the seat. This is possible because the fingerings on a valve trombone are exactly the same as those on a trumpet.

Some trombone players, me included, find the valve trombone to have a somewhat flatter (tone, not pitch) sound than a traditional trombone. However, a good enough musician can easily achieve a beautiful sound on a valve trombone.

Additionally, there is a horn called a marching trombone that also three valves. It is similar to a baritone, but the tubing length and bore sizes are closer to those of a trombone.

What is the size of a tenor trombone?

Trombones come in many sizes.

However, the common tenor, Bb (B-flat) trombone is -- if you were to stretch the tubing out in a straight line -- nine feet long. This is what gives the instrument its fundamental pitch of Bb. By comparison, a Bb trumpet, which is pitched an octave higher than the trombone, is exactly half the length of its larger cousin: 4½ feet long.

There are trombones larger and smaller than this common Bb instrument. The contrabass trombone is typically pitched an octave below the tenor trombone. Its overall length would be 18 feet (doubled, of course). The soprano trombone (or slide trumpet) is the same length of the standard Bb trumpet, mentioned above.

What is the trombones role in the orchestra?

It is technically the only instrument that sounds mostly like a human voice other than the guitar and the only brass instrument with a slide giving the player a disadvantage of playing fast but is good practice and an easy instrument to master. it is really a mixture of trumpet and tuba it is the middle instrument the one keeping the band together!

What are some good jazz trombone solo pieces?

There are endless possibilities, but these are some of my favorites. For jazz, look for JJ Johnson/Kai Winding solos- "Don't Argue" was my favorite. "My Favorite Things" is also a good one, along with "When I Fall In Love". "What a wonderful world" sounds great, but its not necessarily jazz. For big band solos, my favorites are Duke Ellington/Count Basie's "Battle Royale" and Woody Herman's "Bijou" and "My Favorite Things".

Is the trombone considered to be a brass instrument?

No. It is either considered a wind, electronic or hybrid instrument. One common misconception is that the pipes are made of brass due to the fast that facade pipes are often painted gold. Organ pipes are made of a lead - tin alloy, pure tin, pure lead (with trace hardeners such as antimony), wood or combinations thereof. Occasionally copper is used and on even rarer occasions brass is used for specialty pipes. Aluminum has also been experimented with.

How much does it cost to repair a trombone?

For a f-Trigger attachment Anywhere from 600 to 1000$ for a new trombone of average quality. Although a high quality trombone can cost well over 1500$. Another option is buy a used one that would be cheaper.

Small bore(Jazz or beginner horn)

These are typically cheaper but not the best to use once you've gotten past your beginner use unless your using it as a jazz horn. They are usually around the same price but you can find cheaper ones than you can for f-Trigger trombones.

Bass trombones

These are also for jazz and for concert but they are the priciest of the bunch. They will cost well over 1000$ for one since they are very complex and consume alot of material.

Is violin better than trombone?

The violin does not sound at all as the trombone because firstly it is a wood and the trombone a brass instrument and second, the violin is out of treble clef and the trombone out of bass clef (however, trombonists also read treble clef in brass bands and alto and tenor clefs in orchestras) The sound of the trombone is much more similar to the cello - deep and sonorous, slightly similar to a male singing voice.
