What is the common ingredient for 40 abv vodka?

To put it simply, water.

However, vodka is a spirit, and spirits are manufactured from a process known as distillation.

Distillation is a process whereby one takes an organic material (in vodka's case usually rye or wheat) and ferments it by adding yeast to break down the sugars tocreate alcohol and C02. what you have left is essentially a very basic 'beer'.

This 'beer' (known as a wash) is then put in to a still (basically a giant kettle) to be heated.

Alcohol boils at 78.3degrees celcius and water at 100 degrees celcius. This means that the alcohol starts to evaporate before the water. As the alcohol vapours rise they are collected at the top of the still and cooled to create a purified 'distillate'.

When it comes to vodka - this process is repeated until the distillate is up around the 96% abv mark. Water is then added to this distillate until the new liquid is diluted down to 40%abv.

So in essence the bottle of vodka that you buy at your local shop is in fact 60% water - hence my short answer of water being the 'common' ingredient for vodka.

Ora Blue Vodka from France?

Clear. Sweet cheese danish and dried fruit aromas. A supple entry leads to an oily, dryish medium-bodied palate with very clean, sweet cream, mineral dust, dried fruit, and peppery spice flavors. Finishes with a long, fruity, clean white chocolate fudge and mint fade. Very nice. International Review of Spirits Award: Gold Medal
