In what do you type the Internet address to go to a webpage?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You will type the address in the 'address bar.'

The address bar is located at the top of most browsers. It's that white box that is either blank (if you haven't went to a website yet) or containing an address already (and it is if you are reading this). Just erase what's there and type in the address you want to go to and hit the Enter key.

How do you access an old website?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You can view an older version of a site using a tool such as the one available at www.archive.org The site catalogues nearly all of the websites on the internet (including WikiAnswers!) and enables you to see them via their cache. Remember, however, that you almost certainly won't be able to actually use the sites in this state, as they don't keep any scripts with them, to save space.

What does .ac mean at the end of a web address?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

".ac" is the Internet ccTLD (country code Top Level Domain) for Ascension Island.
Registration for this domain is open to anyone.
For more information see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.ac

Most countries have their own Internet TLD. Each country controls the policies governing their own TLD.
For example, ".ca" is the TLD for Canada, and CIRA (The Canadian Internet Registration Authority) restricts their registration to Canadian residents.

Other Internet TLDs aren't associated with any particular country, such as ".com", ".net", ".org", and some others.

There are a total of about 280 Top Level Domains.
For a fairly comprehensive list of TLDs see:

What does it mean to surf the web?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Surfing the Internet is usually seen as fun, dangerous, or a tremendous waste of time, depending on who you ask. All of the above is true, but what is also true is that the Internet is a necessity for today's computer users. It is, in one sense, the world's largest encyclopedia (don't know something? look it up on the Net), but it's also the world's largest data and software repository. Looking for printer drivers? better word processor than Notepad? a good antivirus package? a walkthrough on installing a second hard drive? advice on how to handle a balky Windows install? the new plug-in for your copy of Diablo XII? Whatever you need, you can find it and download it over the Internet, often for free.

I consider the Internet as necessary of a computer resource as an antivirus program, a utilities package, or a backup disk. So should you. In the links below, you'll find tips on navigating the Web using either of the two major browsers, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator (along with some info on Opera and some other browser competition), working with search engines, handling e-mail, keeping your info private while online, working with America Online (the world's largest content provider/ISP and worth a separate section), as well as some tidbits on Net etiquette, Web site construction, and the wonderful and maddening world of Usenet. Happy surfing.

What is the function of the web cam?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The purpose of a webcam is to be able to send a live video of you from your computer to someone else you know along with audio.

Calling people through the internet is sometimes called VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) or internet telephony.

Using a webcam requires some kind of software to operate it. The most popular is the free service Skype. You can download it from the internet for free. Using Skype you can call anyone else with Skype installed, or for a small cost you can make calls to a land-line or mobile number. There are other paid extras available like an online number, voice-mail or group calling.

If you need any more help try the Skype website for more info on video calling.

Who coined the phrase Web 3.0?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Answer

The concept of "Web 2.0" began with a conference brainstorming session between O'Reilly and MediaLive International. Dale Dougherty, web pioneer and O'Reilly were the ones who thought of this idea.

[edit: actually, the origin of Web 2.0 was a book by one Dermot McCormack, titled Web 2.0: 2003-'08 AC (After Crash) The Resurgence of the Internet & E-Commerce in 2002, three years before O'Reilly supposedly coined the term.]
