The Simple English Wikipedia is not specifically for children, but it puts articles in a simpler context, which may make it easier for a child to understand. Simple Wikipedia can still contain articles on adult subject matter, such as sexuality, so use at your own discretion.
Wikipedia is created by users. The validity of the answers depends on who entered the answer, what references they used and how much they really know. Any good researcher will tell you never to trust what is there, but to always check it against valid sources.

Why is Wikipedia so important?
Wikipedia is popular among broadband users for multiple reasons. First of all, it may seem that when on Google, whatever your looking for, wikipedia has a page on it. The vast amount of information found on wikipedia makes it reliable in some aspects. Wikipedia is also still growing with each day, meaning it evolves, and keeps us updated on certain events. The contreversy to wikipedia is of course that anyone can edit anything. Some may say that this makes wikipedia an untrustworthy site. Well, that too can be debated, as strong filters make sure that no one vandilizes the pages. Wikipedia also requires citing of sources or information. What makes wikipedia interesting is that one can write a 30 page paper on a subject, and the next day it could be gone. That is the downside to wikipedia. Basically, dont post on any wiki, unless your ok with your information being cut apart mercilessly.
Wikipedia does not have any advertisements visible to the end user. I am sure, the huge amount of data storage and other administrative issues need some expenditures. How does Wikipedia balance these?
Advantages of using Wikipedia?
*Very quick and easy to find relevant information without trawling through a bunch of google searches.
*Great for just finding out general knowledge or a basic explanation of something you need to know about.
*Normally explains the information in clear, simple terms to make it easy to understand even if you're not familiar with the subject.
*The best thing about using wikipedia for research is that most pages have sources which take you to other sites.
