Harold Hardrada, king of Viking Denmark and Norway, and William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy (an duchy in the North of France). William had a dangerous task of getting his large numbers of knights across he English Channel. The vikings had sturdy ships and landed easily. However the Vikings suffered a huge defeat to Harold's veteran Huskarls at stamford bridge due to them not being prepared for a strong resistance. William however was quite sucessful. He chased Harold and his men down all the way to Hastings where the Saxons were defeated. William was crowned on Christmas day.
