What are the steps of wolves mating?

Well, wolves are complicated. First, the male wolf mounts the female, and the male has a knot on the penis, which swells when it enters the female. The females come in heat once a year, and for only a day or two. Tying is also done to ensure that only the Alpha male can mate with the female (in wild packs). As this usually works and the female wolf does get pregnant, then it takes 60-63 days, or 2 months for the pups to be borne. 4-6 pups are the usual amount of pups, yet 10 is not unusual. January-April is when breeding season is, and usually only the alphas mate, and the others do not mate until they form there own pack, which is usually at the age of two years, more or less. Pups start hearing at three weeks, and seeing at merely two!

Why does the US mint hope people will collect new presidential dollar coins like they did with the state quarters?

One has to remember that the U.S. Mint is a "business". They are in the market to generate revenue for the U.S. Government. I believe that the interest in the State Quarters program was a surprise to the Mint. Therefore, they are hoping for the same or better results for the Dollar program. MGirard

What is the Gray wolf's natural predator?

Well, I'm not an expert, but I don't think so. Although gray wolves can be killed by other animals if they get into a fight, they are generally the main predators in their environment. I don't know if this helps you, but I hope it does.

Wolves are probably the main predators of their habitat but may get killed in a fight with their prey, a forest predator fighting over food, or rarely another wolf in a fight. But grown wolves do not have a main predator, I think they are top of the food chain for their envirounment. Although sometimes bears may dig up wolf dens and kill and eat the pups. ):

im pretty sure that their only predator is humans...

also im not sure but i think that global warming has affected them.
Yes, the grey wolf does have predators. Some of its predators include it's own intended kill, (ex. a deer it is hunting) because of a kick to the head or back.

Another predator is yours truly... the human being.

and decomposers, there on top of them on the food chain.
Yes, poisonous animals.
NO

Why do scientist think gray wolves are essential?

(I think you mean essential) Scientists think wolves are essential to ecosystems because they keep the deer, moose, elk, ect. populations under control. If ungulates become overpopulated in an area, they end up eating too much vegitation, which causes river banks to erode from lack of plant life holding the soil back, trees can't grow because the elk keep eating them down. Such as in Yellowstone. Before the wolves came back, species such as the raven, boreal frog, beavers, and grizzly bears were either extinct or critically endangered in the area. Also, it has been studied that elk calves were malnutrioned and had a higher mortality rate in areas without wolves. For more information, please look up wolves on your favorite search engine(s).
