Nugent smoked some joints in 1967 and hated it. He went straight edge, believing that any outside element makes you "lesser than you were prior to taking it." Even though he had long hair and looked like a Hippie, he made it clear that he had no use for that lifestyle, and thought marijuana made people lethargic and lazy. He didn't play in the concert for that reason. He knew a lot of drug would be there.

As the festival ends, estimates of the number of people who attended vary widely. The state police estimate is 450,000, a figure frequently rounded to half a million. A newspaper editor on the scene claimed the total was probably closer to 150,000, but a Bethel historian says it's actually closer to 700,000. Due to the lack of an adequate ticket selling and collecting system, we'll never know for sure.

The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts says, at its website, that it is located "(a)t the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival." If that information is correct then I'd guess that the farm's address would be the same as the Center's: 200 Hurd Road, Bethel, NY.

It began as an Artie Kornfeld/Michael Lang proposal to build a recording studio in Woodstock NY. The two approached John Roberts and Joel Rosenman, New York City entrepreneurs, for funding. Rosenman suggested they scrap the studio idea and have a concert instead. They chose the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival as a model. They had no idea, until shortly before Woodstock took place, that millions would be drawn to the festival and that close to 500,000 would actually gain entry to the site. In August of 1969, the "counterculture" of the late 60's transformed a concert into a legendary event that named a generation.

Officially only one person died at Woodstock (the original one in 1969). Physical damage (hurt) is a hard thing to measure.

I believe there were three people physically hurt bad enough to require medical attention, however, any time you get that many people together many small injuries happen that do not get officially noticed.

The was also a tent run by the Hog Farm (a communal group lead by Wavy Gravy - they also ran the food "kitchen") that was designated and used to help people who were experiencing "bad trips," but there is no official record of how many people they "treated."

Singer John Sebastian is captured on film announcing that some cat's old lady just had a baby, a kid destined to be far out. A couple of surviving witnesses say there were births. The concert's medical director told reporters at the scene there were two births: one at a local hospital after the mother was flown out by helicopter; the other in a car caught in the epic traffic jam outside the site crowded with more than 400,000 people.

Woodstock was held at Max Yasgur's 600-acre dairy farm in the Catskills near the hamlet of White Lake in the town of Bethel, New York, from August 15 to August 18, 1969. Bethel, in Sullivan County, is 43 miles (69 km) southwest of the town of Woodstock, New York, in adjoining Ulster County.

It is not possible to determine the value unless similar pieces have been sold or auctioned. However, such a piece could bring a very nice price at an auction with the right buyers.

Santana perfomed at Woodstock in the year 1969. It was a music festival billed as "an Awuarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace and Music" with 500,000 visitors.

There was the biggest outdoor rock fest ever, on August 15-18, 1969.

Thousands of people came to Woodstock (actually held near Bethel in upstate New York) to listen to the likes of Janice Joplin, Jimmi Hendrix and many others for 3 days of musical performances. This was a major display of the 1960s counter-culture (hippies) and anti-war movements. There was considerable use of illicit drugs.

Conditions were sunny and hot, but there was also rain that turned some of the concert grounds into massive mud pits.
