Sorry, can't answer the question directly. Ravi Shankar didn't then and still doesn't today do 'songs' he did and does do ragas and other Indian musical forms.

By the way, I was in India recently. The kids I asked didn't know anything about the Ravi Shankar sitar player who was and is popular in the West. There are at least two other Ravi Shankars that are well known in India. One is a very famous religious (well, not exactly religious but something close) leader. Joan Vaes who was six months pregnant was the last to sing in the first day. At the time of the rain, a chant went up: 'No rain, no rain, no rain.' But it didn't stop the deluge and in three hours, five inches of rain fell and the festival became a mud fest. Joan Baez famously sang 'We shall overcome' during a full-on thunderstorm.

Different performers were paid different amounts. Jimi Hendrix received $18,000. Santana and a number of other performers received $1,500. There were a number of unscheduled performers who played for free.

There were only 2 deaths at the Woodstock festival in 1969. One person was killed accidentally and there was one believed to be heroin overdose. Attendees and organizers present on scene removed the bodies, eventually Sullivan County's officers responded.

Singer John Sebastian is captured on film announcing that some cat's old lady just had a baby, a kid destined to be far out. A couple of surviving witnesses say there were births. The concert's medical director told reporters at the scene there were two births: one at a local hospital after the mother was flown out by helicopter; the other in a car caught in the epic traffic jam outside the site crowded with more than 400,000 people.

I have a reputable book called Rock & Roll - Year by Year by Luke Crampton & Dafydd Rees that puts the first Woodstock in Sept 2-4 of 1967. I'd imagine this book would be a better source than Wikipedia =)

The field they were all in became trampled down, heavy rain on the second day created one big mud pile, so in a complete hippie attitude they accepted the mud and enjoyed it rather than becoming negative.
