X-Ray

Invented by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in 1895, X-ray imaging is used in hospitals to detect fractures to bone, as well as abnormalities to soft tissues.

Can body lotion block x-ray?

No, the only thing that can block X-rays is a sheet of lead.

Does meth use show up in chest x ray?

No. Meth does not stick to your lungs. Urban Myth. It's water soluble so therefore will desolve into blood stream. It will most likely leave a trace no different to smoking tabaco etc.

In what German city was the x-ray invented?

Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen (27 March 1845 - 10 February 1923) was working in Munich when he discovered X-rays on 8 November 1895.

How lead appears in x-ray image?

Lead appears white in an x-ray image. Its density prevents the x-ray beam from reaching the x-ray film leaving that part of the film unexposed (white).

Is it harmful to unborn baby growth you had chest X-ray during very early stage of pregnancy?

There are risks of unwanted effects to your baby especially during the first trimester. Unless the x-ray is emergency, I recommend you to postpone.

What can x-rays show on cat paws?

all u will see is bones all u will see is bones

What is the difference between X-ray computer tomography magnetic resonance imaging and mammography?

Mammography is just an X-ray of the breast.

Tomography (usually "computer assisted ... OR CAT scan) is also an X-ray;

but by moving the source AND the plate (screen) in special patterns they can get a better view of internal structures than just a flat plate.

On the other hand

MRI does NOT use X-rays, it functions by distorting the electron paths of the atoms of your body (using a magnetic field) and then detecting the radio waves generated (by those atoms) as the electrons snap back into place.

How do you explain an x ray of a back that has a hand on it as well?

If the patient's hands are in the field of the xray they will appear on the film, so even if they are on the stomach they will appear as if they are over or near the spine. If someone has helped immobilise the patient for the xray, then their hands may appear on the film.

What are the risks from skull X-rays?

There are no common side effects from a skull X-ray, though the patient may feel some discomfort in the positioning of the head and neck. Any X-ray procedure carries minimal radiation risk. As the imaging is of the skull, the lower body can be protected with lead blankets, particularly if the patient is a child or a pregnant woman.

What is the kilovoltage range for most dental X-ray machines?

The 60 kV to 70 kV range will probably cover most of the common dental X-ray machines.

Why do you have to hold your breath during an x-ray?

If you breath during a chest X-Ray, you can distort the way the X-ray "picture" will be seen. To get an idea of why, imagine holding two balloons filled with air. You are holding the 'neck' without tying off the balloon. With one balloon, hold it so no air escapes ("Hold your breath"). But while holding the one so no air escapes, go ahead and let the air go out a bit from the other. You'll see that balloon "move"... it's outer shell will grow smaller. If you had a high speed camera while letting air out, or blowing up, one balloon, you would see a blurry edge as the one balloon expands or decreases.

The same happens with the lungs during breathing as you have an X-Ray; Breathing in and out during the X-Ray will make the image "blurry". ALSO and more importantly, when you are told to "take a deep breath and hold it", you are expanding all the tiny bronchioles inside the lungs. That way, those small tubes get imaged also, so if there is infection or a tiny problem, it will show up in the "picture".

Can an x-ray show stool?

Yes it will show up. I just had an x-ray and it showed up.

How can an xray help diagnose malnutrition?

X rays can determine bone density and reveal gastrointestinal disturbances, and heart and lung damage.

What are the differences in T1 weighted and T2 weighted MRI images?

T1= Fat- Appears Bright e.g. Grey matter

= Water- Appears Dark e.g. CSF, water

T2 Just opposite to T1

How is an x-ray film different from a photographic film?

Basically its the same stuff - but you can wrap it differently because it will never be exposed to visible light (in normal usage).

What are X-rays?

You can't see X-rays, so we don't really have a name for their "color" other than saying they're "X-ray colored".

You might be asking how one could create a color X-ray. One way would be to choose three different wavelengths within the X-ray band and assign each a different color that we CAN see (red, green, and blue) and then combine the image at each wavelength to form a composite color image. This sort of thing is done in Astronomy all the time (with various spectral ranges being reassigned to visual; often the wavelengths chosen correspond to lines in the spectra of particular species).

Does a stress fracture always appear on a x-ray?

No - it depends on when the picture is taken (before or after swelling has been reduced) and the angle of the picture. If the fracture is small enough and in a spot not covered by the picture, it can easily be missed on a first pass. Swelling with stress fractures can often mask it as well, and it's common for doctors to let the swelling go down some before pictures are taken. X-rays are taken by placing the patient in standard positions for the best viewing angle of the bone being X-rayed; however, that doesn't always mean it's the optimum angle for all injuries.

The only way to know is if the pain and swelling continue past the first week. If the pain and swelling continue past the first week and it's still bruised, they can take another X-ray with contrast dye if needed to help illuminate the area of the potential fracture to help it show up better.
