My mother owned a female Yorkshire Terrier in Australia who lived until the age of 24. I'm not aware of any other Yorkies older than 24,and this was in human years
Billy a Yorkshire Terrier is believed to be the oldest living dog in the world. He is a 22 years old canine , which is equivalent to 154 human years. The current holder of the title with the Guinness World Records is 21 year old kelpie cross Sako from Melbourne, Australia.
there are an average of 2 to 8 pups in a Yorkie litter
ther isn't a limit to the amount of tricks she could learn,
i have a yorkie, she knows 10 or 11 tricks and shes still learning.
it is said that once u teach a yorkie something 15 times, comprehesively, they should get it!
I have never heard of a westie / chow mix. Westies are very small dogs, about a foot and a half tall. Chows are very BIG dogs, making it very unlikely that you would come across mixes of these two breeds.
If it means food, yes a fox will try to kill any animal that's smaller than itself.
dear questioner it depends on number of things which make a Dog or a puppy stay small for life! malnutrion, breed's genetic make up of bone structure, lack of excercise. now the thing is 'small' in what way? for ex, a german shepherd must reach atleast 22 inches at shoulders at maturity but if given diet of high protien but with very low calcium diet it won't reach 22 inch @ shoulders.
dogs do NOT have periods. A period ,as in human females is a menstruation, bleeding in a female dog is called a season or oestrus. The thing is. Ovulation and oestrus go together while ovulation and menstruation do not. The two systems are different. Eileen.
No, "Teacups" are not an actual size recognized by the registrations rather a size breeders put on them to give potential buyers a good idea that these dogs will be very small by Yorkie standards. I have found people have different ideas of what a "teacup" is so I would double the weight at 12 weeks to give you an idea of the adult size. Pet stores don't carry "teacups" because they don't weigh enough at the age they want to sell them. If you want a really small pup your best bet will be internet. I sell Yorkie's and would consider mine to be "teacup" since my girls weigh between 3-5lbs. You will pay considerably more for a "teacup" than you will a regular 6-7lb Yorkie.
Take the pet to the veterinarian immediately! Rat poison causes internal bleeding and can easily kill your pet in a short amount of time the pet does not receive immediate veterinary care!
Take it on very long walks and use up its energy, play with it too maybe in the parks.
Yes they are. They are the second most popular breed in the United States of America, and right behind the Labrador Retriever.
A one month old yorkie should have about 1/4 cup of dog food. Some yorkies don't eat very much in the beginning so although you give them that much doesn't mean they are going to eat all of it.
yorkies don't weigh that much when grown!however if one did,by dog growth rates,it would weigh about 600 pounds..........
They should only way up to 12 pounds. They can't gain that much weight. 12 pounds is even on the fat scale. Make sure your yorkie stays nice and healthy to maintain full body growth.
First, the term molt is most commonly used for birds (foul & poultry); which is the loss of feathers.
Animals with fur do not molt, they shed their hair so that new hair can grow.
Hair of a fully grown Yorkshire Terrier is always long and it grows like human hair. If you want you can trim it on regular interval, to keep it short.
Yorkshire, England
Also known as Yorkies, it's thought they were bred from various Scottish terrier breeds and local dogs to work in the Northern English mines and mills, catching rats and mice and, of course, providing companionship.
I feed mine turkey, as long as it's off the bone. NEVER give any dog ANY type of "bird-bone" as it will splinter and can ruin a dogs internal organs, thus killing it quickly!!
I am a "bad mommy" and give my 2 yorkies Chicken Sausages & the regular Vienna Sausages!! I told my vet and he wasn't too concerned about it!! As long as he's okay with it, I'M OKAY with it!!
York takes its name from the Anglo-Saxon word Eoforwīcwhich means town of wild boars as during this period the town was full of wild-boars. When the Vikings invaded they adapted the name to Jorvik meaning wild-horse bay to fit in with their Norse language. This later became York as language develops over the years. The shire prefix at the end is one that England gives to all non-metropolitan counties.
Actually no yorkers don't have health problem except if the nose is dry and it doesn't wag its tail then its sick and sad.If it has a dry nose only and wagged tail its happy but sick . If it has wet nose and not wagged tail its not sick but its not happy either . And of course you know that when it has a wet nose and has a wagged tail its not sick its happy and its fine . By the way for the little girls who are my age to get jealous this was written by a fourth grader and a 10th year old girl :) :p
they live for ages. I've heard some that live until 14 or maybe a little older in human years which is pretty good for dogs.
As a general rule smaller dogs live longer than larger dogs. A well cared for Yorkshire Terrier could easily live to sixteen or more
I have a Rex as well, he is nearly 2 years old and really fat, don't worry if he or she is bigger than other rabbits. All Rex's are known to have a lot of fat to keep them warm in Winter. He/she might develop a roll of fat underneath its chin, this is normal. But beware of foods that are fattening such as lucerne hay. Rex's love the green bits at the end of carrots and also love chocolate but don't give it too much.
According to the American Kennel Club, a full grown Yorkshire Terrier's weight "must not exceed 7 lbs". I would say typically they fall between 4 to 7 lbs, however, depending on many factors they could weigh anywhere from 2 to 12 lbs :)
