How do you know that bats and cats can hear ultra sound?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

experiments, i would think that scientist would put them in a room and emit sounds at different wave lenghs to see if they respond or if there is a change in their behaviour. but that's just a guess :) also, bats are completely blind and rely on their hearing to navigate. that's where the phrase "blind as a bat" came from.

What is the average heartbeat of a 6 week pregnancy?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Starting at week 5 the fetal heart will accelerate at a rate of 3.3 beats per day for the next month.

The fetal heart begins to beat at approximately the same rate as the mothers, which is 80 to 85 bpm. Below illustrates the approximate fetal heart rate for weeks 5 to 9, assuming a starting rate of 80

  • Week 5 starts at 80 and ends at 103 bpm

  • Week 6 starts at 103 and ends at 126 bpm

  • Week 7 starts at 126 and ends at 149 bpm

  • Week 8 starts at 149 and ends at 172 bpm

At week 9 the fetal heartbeat tends to beat within a range of 155 to 195 bpm.

The fetal heart rate will begin to decrease and generally will fall within the range of 120 to 160 bpm by week 12.

What does it mean when there is a yolk sac but no fetus?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A yolk sac is a precursor to a baby, usually yolk sacs are seen at 5 1/2 weeks. A fetal heart is detectable in the 6th week - that is what is a better indicator of having a baby, eventhough it is called an embryo at this point.

Can i see the size of a fetus at 16 weeks?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The size of fetus is 4 to 5 mm at 5 weeks pregnancy and about half an inch or 1.25 cm at 7 weeks of pregnancy. Fetus grows by geometrical proportion with time. So you can calculate the size of fetus at 6 weeks by mathematical calculation. Say the size be X mm at six weeks. So you have 4 mm, X mm, 25 mm in the series, So X squred equals to 4*25=100. X is equal to 10. So the size of the fetus will be 10 mm at 6 weeks.

Does fetus have human form at 6 weeks?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

At 6 weeks post-conception, the fetus looks like a little blob - the spinal column has started to stand out and you might make out the eye sockets starting to fold back in. Otherwise, it looks like any vertebrate fetus and is not visually identifiable as human.

When can you see a heartbeat on ultrasound?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The heart beat should be detected on ultrasound by 7w. - but it depends on the ultrasound machine quality.

If there is no HB by 8w, the doctor will od the labs to see if the hcg levels are increasing. Good luck!

What if my baby doesn't have a heart beat?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No, I'm sorry if there is no heart beat there will be no baby. By 5 weeks there should be a detectable heart beat, by 6 weeks the heart beat can be heard with a transvaginal ultra sound scan.

If you are not certain when you conceived your doctor should order a blood hCG level with a repeat in about 3 days to determine if the hCG level is rising, a sign of a healthy pregnancy or dropping - a sign of a missed miscarriage.

The cells that have formed will either be absorbed and the lining will shed (much like a heavy period) or your doctor will perform a D & C to gently remove the tissue left in the uterus.

How do men determine the sex of a baby?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Embryos are genotypically a boy or a girl at the time of conception. The chromosomes they inherit make them either XX(girl) or XY(boy). Because a female is XX, she will always contribute an X chromosome, but because a male has both, X and Y (XY), the male could either contribute an X chromosome or a Y chromosome.

Is it possible to feel your baby's heartbeat through your belly?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No, with a Doppler stethoscope it can be heard at approx. 8-10 weeks in a thin woman. An ultrasound machine can see the fetal heart at 6-8 weeks depending on the qualiity of the machine. The fetal heart is way to small to feel early in the pregnancy, in fact, it cannot even be felt at full term.

Can you see the baby in an ultrasound at 9 weeks?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You probably won't feel your baby kick until around week 16 and 22, even though the baby has been moving since week 7 or 8. You may have already witnessed these movements during an ultrasound. This is often felt as a fluttering feeling or a grasshopper walking across your belly during the first movements.

How can a scan at 7 weeks showed no heart beat and 8 weeks 4 days still none yet in the scan there are 2 fetus?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I have to say if you have not m/c it is likely that the 8 week u/s just did not detect a hb. Plainly said, growth happens at an alarming rate during the first trimester and its possible that you just didn't see that heart rate at your 8wk because it wasn't ready yet. You also need to take in account the possibility of error in fetal age if you didn't know your exact ovulation or LMP.

Can an ultrasound tell the difference between a 23 week old fetus and a 24 week old fetus?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A vaginal ultrasound can tell how far along you are. Also a blood test for HCG quants will tell also. Consult your doctor or clinic. It doesn't matter whether or not you have a vaginal ultrasound or one on the abdomen ultrasound is a very good way of seeing how far along you are in pregnancy and making sure that the fetus is developing accordingly if they see any problems in the development they will want to run more tests hope this helps you , Good Luck and God Bless!!!

How soon can you hear a baby?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The earliest a doctor can get a baby's heartbeat on a Doppler inside the womb is 9 weeks... any earlier and it might not be able to be heard! Hope this helps... on the flip side you should take into account your size. If you are smaller it might happen sooner and if you are larger than it may happen a little later.

If you are 8 weeks pregnant and don't detect a heartbeat at an ultrsound could the baby still be alive?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It's possible, though not likely. 85% of women can see the heartbeat flicker on the u/s at 5-6 weeks, although some women with a higher body mass index cannot. Do not give up hope until your HcG levels have been measured by the doc. Good luck.
