Why is the pigment on my dog's nose turning white?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A dogs nose is not supposed to change colour. If your dogs nose has changed colour from pink to patches of black, it may be because of a type of skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma caused by sun exposure alot like melanoma in humans. If this is the case please see your veterinarian to get it treated.

What size collar does Maltese puppy need?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Choosing the right size collar for a Maltese puppy depends on their age, weight, and neck size. Maltese puppies are small, so you'll want to select a collar that fits comfortably but isn't too tight. Here's a general guideline:

Measure the Neck: Use a soft measuring tape to measure the circumference of your Maltese puppy's neck. Make sure to measure snugly but not too tight.

Add Some Extra Room: Once you have the neck measurement, add about 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 centimeters) to allow for growth. Puppies grow quickly, so having a bit of extra room is essential.

Consider Adjustable Collars: Opt for an adjustable collar that can grow with your puppy. These collars often have multiple holes or a sliding mechanism to accommodate size changes.

Choose a Lightweight Material: Since Maltese puppies are small and delicate, consider a collar made of lightweight, comfortable material like nylon or soft leather. Avoid heavy or bulky collars.

Regularly Check and Adjust: As your Maltese puppy grows, regularly check the collar's fit. You should be able to fit two fingers comfortably between the collar and your puppy's neck. If it becomes too tight, adjust it to ensure it's not causing discomfort.

It's important to remember that a well-fitted collar is crucial for your puppy's safety and comfort. If you're unsure about the size, you can consult with a veterinarian or a pet store professional to help you select the right collar size for your Maltese puppy.

Every four hours for pee breaks for five minutes, plus say a fifteen minute walk once a day around the block for the first few months. You need to be patient, they have very little legs. ^^

When older, a half hour walk twice a day is good. (plus pee breaks)

How do you take care of a Maltese dog for 6 months?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Well, they need the simple pet care, food, water, exercise, and love. But in the puppy stage, they can be hard to potty train. They are more of a indoor dog, they don't need that much exercise, but a couple walks a week work. Maltese are agile dogs, so that means they can jump, run, leap, etc. well. I would suggest a well covered cage for them.

What is a Maltese?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A Maltese is a small white dog

A Maltese is a very fun, lovable toy dog. malteses can live in apartments or houses. it must be walked every day for about an hour. if you are getting puppies, then you should train it first on how to do it's buisness. if you live in an apartment, then teach it how to do its buisness on newspaper. if you don't have time in the day to take a Maltese outside, then it will become disordered and sad. you can ask a friend to take it out if he/she says yes.

hope it helped! =) -fluffangel1999

How many cups of dry dog food should a Maltese eat per day?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

well,it depends, if it is a puppy, then the best food for it for a couple of weeks is canned food, there are no recommendations from me but you should try to ask your vet. when it is a grown-dog, you have to be very careful on its diet, because overfeeding it will cause it to become disordered, fat, and will not want to go outside that much. more questions? i answer them all! -fluffangel1999

What is the Difference between a pomeranian and a Maltese?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The Pomeranian and the chihuahua are worlds apart in difference. The chihuahua belongs to the southern pariah clade of dogs, and the pomeranian belongs to the northern spitz clade of dogs. both come from completely opposite sides of the planet!

Chihuahuas are New World dogs genetically. Their origing is surrounded in mystery, but their ancestors were among the dogs and wolves that came to the New world with nomadic tribes, and eventually got to looking their way among the Aztecs, Toltecs and Mayans. Black Chihuahuas were especially prized as agents of the spirit world. It was a black dog's job to guide a man's spirit through the trials and journey of the underworld. That dog was the chihuahua and its ancestor the techichi. They may look like refined, fragile little lap dogs, but the are tough dogs with a very ancient outlook on life, though they seem to remember that they were once prized and sort of worshipped.

Pomeranians are the smallest dogs in the spitz family. They are actually very far removed from wolves, but they were bred to work in the cold environment of Northern Europe. The Pomeranian was directly bred down from the german spitz into its current size. They were prized as lap dogs and sleeve dogs for the rich. Pomeranians look tough but they are much more fragile than a chihuahua.

To understand the difference between a long haired chiahuahua and a pomeranian, you first need to look at the dog's proportion. Chihuahuas are "cobby" a term which means that their legs (hip to ground and shoulder to ground) are slightly shorter than the length of their spine. They look like a rectangle in profile. Pomeranians are "short-backed" which means that their legs are the same length or longer than their spine. in profile, they look square.

Look at the bone structure. Pomeranians have much heavier bone structure compared to an identically sized chihuahua. Pomeranians looks sturdy. Chihuahuas look gracile.

Look at the head in proportion to the body. A Pomeranian's head should look in proportion to the rest of the body. Chihuahua heads tend to look a bit big for their body. Chihuahuas have a domed skull, pomeranians do not, although this can be hard to tell with the massive amount of fuzz they can have up top. Chihuahua eyes tend to be larger in proportion to the head than a similarly sized pom.

Chihuahuas may have a molera, or soft spot, on their heads similar to the way human babies do. Pomeranians never have this feature. And is it any wonder? Chihuahuas have the biggest brain to body proportion of any other dog. all that brain still needs to be born safely, after all. Pomeranians have a foxy face, which is sort of wedge shaped.

Pomeranian ears are "erect" Chihuahua ears are "bat" Pom ears are always held high, they are not as big, and they are not as rounded as a chihuahua's ears. When a dog's ears are at rest, take a look at the triangle between the tips of the ears and the point of the nose. A chihuahua forms an equilateral triangle. a pom is more accute.

Look at the tail. Poms carry their tail high over the back or curled. Chihuahua tails are sickle shaped. Chihuahuas have full range of motion in their tails, much more wolflike, where it can curl into a sickle but also curl under or sideways with ease. The tail is not always carried high. Pom tails are much stiffer. They do not bend as easily as a Chihuahua's tail.

Now feel the dog. Chihuahuas can have double coats that are very fluffy, and poms can have coats that are very flat, but you are feeling for the texture of the guard hair. Poms have a coarse outer coat that is stiff to the touch and very dense. It should be a little difficult to feel all the way down to the skin of the dog. Chihuahua outer coats are soft, fine and silky and sometimes curly especially around the mane and fringes. It should be very easy to feel the skin of the dog through the fur. In chihuahuas the mane and the fringes on the ears and behind the forelegs, and the pants on the back legs tend to be longer than the rest of the fur. The chihuahua tail is also a banner of even longer soft fur. Pomeranian fur tends to be the same length all over. Pomeranians tend to blow their undercoats once or twice a year. Chihuahuas do not, they shed all the time.

BUt despite all the differences it can be hard to tell due to sometimes poor breeding. Both dogs are meant to be 2-6 pounds, (1-2kg), both dogs can come in any color, both have the same popular colors of fawn, sable, black and tan, brindle, merle, solid color, piebald. Chihuahuas are healthier overall and longer lived by 2 years on average. Pomeranianas tend to be more timid.

What is the name of a Maltese cockapoo mix?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

We have an adorable Cockapoo-Beagle mix, and we lovingly call her a "Cockapoogle", just something we made up, of course. My fil teases "Ba-Spoodle". I did see somewhere on the Internet, and I can't recall where, that it is a "Coodle", however, when I checked, I found that is the name of a Border Collie and French Poodle mix. There probably isn't a name for this mix, because a Cockapoo is already a mix breed dog.

How do you warm a dog sleeping in a doghouse outside in the winter?

User Avatar

Asked by Hagoleshet

You should put plenty of straw in the doghouse for the dog to cuddle up in. An insulated dog house also helps protect from the cold as does a flap on the door. The more that you can keep the cold out, the better. The dog should always have fresh, unfrozen water also. Feeding a larger amount of food helps because the dog uses more energy to keep warm and needs more nourishment to stay healthy.

Answer:

The first thing you want to do is to build the proper dog house for your dog. You want the dog house large enough for your best friend to be comfortable, but small enough for the dog to create enough body heat to help keep warm. Building an insulated dog house with a sealing door helps a lot. The floor of the dog house should also be insulated for best results. Having straw or a padded area for the dog to lay also is very helpful. One last thing will really help. You can install a dog house heater. These can be found on Amazon.

How many times can you take 800mg of ibuprofen in a 24 hr period for pain?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

800 mg of ibuprofen is a large amount. usually they come in about 200 mg.

it depends on if your body is tolerant to the drug. if you take high doses frequently, your body will become used to it and need more to get the same effect... this is where drug addiction comes into play so be careful

id say you could take 2 800mg pills of ibuprofen in 24 hours but im not a doctor. just from experience, my body is tolerant to pain pills. but, it also depends on your weight.

it can become toxic around 400mg per kg. one kg is about 2.2 pounds so you can do the math. just be careful

What is lameness in dogs?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Lameness means the dog has a lame leg either from birth or has injured it. It's best to have a vet look at it because if it is a problem for the dog in many cases it can be fixed. I have a little 15 lb. male Cockapoo that has a slightly twisted hind right leg and in both knee joints there is a pop. The vet has said to leave it for not, but my husband and I are stashing some money aside to have surgery done in another year.
