Bichon frise are sometimes hyper.
As you might of heard they have blitz's regularly these are when bichon frise run around and jump a lot usually barking. This is not a bad thing and it means they are happy.
The legs may shake if the dog is frightened.
The name is French! But, it is said like: Bee-ShoneFree-Zay.
You should ask to see the parents and you need to ask about history of the dogs; their parents if they know about them, and if they had any medical problems. When you see the parents, you can see what the puppies will look and act like.
A little treat of cheese here and there will not be harmful, but many Bichon Frise are lactose intolerant (my Bichon/Poodle is) so watch for signs of diarrhea, vomitting, licking, and hot spots which can indicate the need to limit their diet. If you do need to limit their diet California Natural or Healthwise are good dog foods and even have treats with limited ingredients.
This breed of dogs come from France. I have one of my own and everytime I think she's thinking something I imagine it in a very cut french accent!!!
I have a bichon frise pure bread she is sooo cute! Her name is Rosie, and she's six years old. She REALY goes crazy. My mom and i call it her "bath fit". I love her VERY much!
No. All dogs only see in black, grey and white. Just like the old movies. Hope this helps!
Actually, they see color, but their chromatic acuity is significantly less than humans'. This is for two reasons: (1) dogs have far fewer cone cells in their retina (cone cells are responsible for seeing color); and (2) dogs are dichromatic (the see only two primary colors - blue and yellow)
It is painful and your waters burst. Also, you might see your mucus plug come out You will experience intermitent cramping similar to period cramps they will come & go & eventually get worse & closer together, or you may have back labor which would be a dull ache in your lower back that continues to get more intense. You may lose your mucous plug, you might have a "bloody show", your water may break, but not always! You may experience a fullness or achey sensation in your pelvic floor or rectal pressure, like you have to have a bowel movement, but it just doesn't seem to go away. Just remember to stay calm, relax & keep moving around it will help your labor go faster....you can also check out my post on techniques to make giving birth easier.....best of luck to you! ;)
My 4 month old Chocolate Lab weighs 42 lbs. today. He was 4 months old 3 days ago. He is not overweight or underweight. He exercises outside daily and has dog and cat playmates that run with him frequently during the day inside the house. He is typical of other labs that have been in my family over several decades.
my bichon frise is 8 weeks old and the tail already curls and plumes
my little man will be a year old, i have had him since he was 10 weeks old and he has always had the adorable pom pom, curly tail. Although his mother and some of his siblings did not have one as poofy and cute as his.
Bichon Frise are supposed to be 12 inches max at the shoulder, however I've seen a couple larger ones.
Bichons need to be washed and dried with a towel then blow dried. Then they should be brushed. or else they can be looking mangy. my bichon i wash towel dry air dry blow dry then brush. But if you dont want to you can jsut bring it to a dog groomer or pet store and they could do it. I do mine myself and it usually take 45 minutes.
Yes, though they may need to eat canned food or moistened dry food as they will obviously not be able to chew as well with about 1/4 of their teeth left.
they have a tendancy to bark. However not all of them do
there are many ways to help stop barking anyway
*electric collars which sound very meen but infact the are painless its just a little vibration sent on the dogs neck
*spray collars which spary the dogs face to stop them barking
A dogs natural temperature ranges between 99.5 and 102.5 degrees F. There are many things that can cause a temperature in dogs, anything from the common cold to an infection. I would say if the dog has other symptoms, or if the temperature gets too high to take it to the vet.
If they only get some chocolate then its fine. If they get a lot and its a puppy then it can be bad but it shouldn't die. My bichon when it was a baby got into everything hes had a whole plate of sausages one time donuts one time cake one time chicken. But hes 8 now and hes fine. They dog should be fine. If the bichon got a ton of chocolate he/ she will most likely just be throwning up. Its nothing big. hope for the best for you!
Bichons have high matinence coats that need to be brushed out daily to prevent mats and become healthy and clean. :)
Usually a wirebrush is what you need, but some bishons are sensative to this, if this is the case use the brushes with the little plastic ball ends.
It isn't so much the fur, but more so the dander and saliva. Dogs shed tiny flakes of skin as the skin replaces itself just as our skin does. It is called dander. However, in some breeds, the shedding of hair or fur carries saliva and dander with it. Try to select a non/low-shedding, low-dander breed or mix of dog.
Remember, there is no such thing as a completely Hypoallergenic dog, so do not purchase a pup if the breeder or store tells you it's completely "hypoallergenic". This means they haven't done their homework!!
The good thing is that many children out-grow asthma so it's best to be patient. If the asthma symptoms aren't very severe or are well controlled, you should visit with several types of low shedding/low dander dogs and puppies to see which would be a good match for your child or your family. Also, if the child is around the dog on a regular basis, they will often become accustomed and immune to the dog and build up a tolerance to it. If your child's asthma is extremely bad or they are having regular attacks, please wait until the child gets a bit older and outgrows the severity of the condition to purchase a dog. It will be more kind to the child and the pup as well.
Dog hair is generally not an allergy trigger, but symptoms begin appearing when the hair sheds out dander and saliva along with it. This is why you should try to select a non-shedding or low-shedding breed. Please do not purchase a short-coated dog. Short coated dogs typically shed more than long-haired dogs. This is a little-known fact that very few people outside of animal care actually know. (I work in animal care and I am a Dog Breed Specialist and Animal Care Technician for a puppy-specialist store.)
If a person lives in an environment that constantly triggers their asthma, but is not allergic to dogs, they may still be irritated by the fine dander shed by the dog. If the other allergens in the environment are reduced, and the asthma controlled by medication, they may then be able to tolerate a dog. Dogs with a skin problem, such as having an allergy themselves, or having a skin infection, will replace their skin faster and shed more dander. Please do not wash your dog excessively. This will dry out the skin and cause dry skin and frequent scratching which will release the dander into the air. Also, your pup could possibly get a skin infection from scratching, which will be irritating to you and to him!
Affenpinscher, Airedale Terrier, American Hairless Terrier, Australian Terrier, Basenji, Bedlington Terrier, Bergamasco, Bichon Frise, Black Russian Terrier, Bolognese, Border Terrier, Bouvier des Flandres, Brussels Griffon, Cairn, Cesky Terrier, Chacy Ranior, Chinese Crested (hairless), Coton De Tulear, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Glen of Imaal Terrier, Hairless Khala, Havanese, Irish Terrier, Kerry Blue Terrier, Komondor, Lagotto Romagnolo, Lakeland Terrier, Lowchen, Maltese, Manchester Terrier, Norfolk Terrier, Norwich Terrier, Peruvian Inca Orchid, PBGV, Polish Owczarek Nizinny, Poodles (all sizes), Portuguese Water Dog, Puli, Scottie, Sealyham Terrier, Shih-Tzu, Silky Terrier, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Spanish Water Dog, Standard Poodle, Schnauzer (all sizes), Tibetan Terrier, Welsh Terrier, Westie, Wirehaired Fox Terrier, Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Xoloitzcuintle, Yorkshire Terrier
A mix of any of these dogs (such as a Malti-poo, Yorkie-poo, Westie-poo, Schnoodle, etc) will also be non-shedding. However, beware of a 1/2 shedding to 1/2 non-shedding mix such as a Labradoodle or Goldendoodle. These dogs have several definable coat types, and only some of them are non-shedding. You'd be best to find a multi-generation cross, such as 1/3 lab to 2/3 poodle, or better yet- 1/4 lab to 3/4 poodle. You are almost completely assured that this will be a non-shedding mix.
There are other opinions in the Discussion box to the left in the blue area under tools.
It can depend. Bichon's have hair not fur, so like human hair it will continuously grow unless someone cuts it. So unless a person doesn't cut bishon's hair then yes it could be considered very long haired.
