I am unclear on the "nation" in question, so I will not answer that point per se.

If the question is how Islam had an effect on history, there is quite a substantial answer. The Rashidun and Umayyad Caliphates overthrew the Sassanid Persian State and conquered more than half of the Byzantine Empire. They also united all of North Africa and overthrew Visigothic Spain. Much of European policy in the early Middle Ages was devoted to weakening or removing the Islamic Empires (the unified Empire broke down by the 800s and 900s C.E.). In Spain, these wars were called the Reconquista. In the former Byzantine provinces, these wars were called the Crusades. Admittedly, the former were more successful and more humane than the latter.

Through trade and contact with North Africa, Islam entered West Africa where its organization and ideals led to complex African States like Ghana, Mali, and the Songhai. It also penetrated the east coast of Africa, leading to Islamic Somali States and the Omani Empire. It was trade between East Africa and Indonesia that led to Islam's expansion across the Indian ocean and the establishment of the Sultanate of Aceh. This government led to increased dissemination of Islam throughout Indonesia.

As for Southeastern Europe. The Ottoman Empire's expansion into Southeastern Europe led to the conversion of many Europeans to Islam, especially in Bosnia and Albania. It also solidified the culture of most Orthodox and Apostolic Christians who now defined their faith in opposition to the Ottoman culture would commit themselves to open rebellion in the later Ottoman Period.

As for Asia in general. The early Caliphates penetrated into the heart of Central Asia and numerous Türks converted to Islam. This led to a proxy war between the Arab Turks and the Chinese Turks in what is today Xinjiang Province, China and permitted the expansion of Islam into West China, creating the Hui People (Muslim ethnicity) in China. The Mughal Turks, turned their sights southwards and overran much of northern India, bringing Islam with them and permanently seeding Muslim communities in what would become Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Muslims did not come to the Americas or to Western Europe in large numbers before the 20th century and there has certainly been an effect in those countries. Some countries have been relatively tolerant of Muslims and received toleration in return, such as the United States (foreign Islamist terror excepted) and other countries have been less tolerant such as France. In either case, Muslims are changing the political fabric in these nations and causing and identity crisis throughout Europe.

Islam effected his followers and those who know it. for example eastern Christians in Europe are quite different from western. because they mixed with Muslims and their ideology.

Did the Nation of Islam believe in violence or non-violence?

It depends on the particular Nation of Islam preacher. Some were more bellicose than others (advocating for actual attacks on whites or restricting violence to self-defense), but the Nation of Islam was certainly not a mirror of Reverend King's peaceful non-violence.It is important to note that the Nation of Islam is distinct from Sunni Islam in several key respects and the rules of the Nation of Islam are inconsistent with those of Sunni Islam.
