I could answer your question, and the others on here by telling you exactly how to replace your water pump - I just replaced my serpentine belt, fan clutch AND water pump on my 98 Jeep GC. But, I'm not. I believe in teaching someone to fish soo... go down to your local auto-parts store and buy the Haynes or Chilton book for your vehicle. Runs between 15 and 25 bucks and next to buying a OBD code reader, it's the most well spent money you'll ever spend on your vehicle.

The repair book not only tells you how to fix stuff on your vehicle, it also tells you WHERE stuff is... for the most part. And tells you how much fluid to add, and whether your mechanic is going to rip you off. Like my Jeep, it's fuel filter is life of vehicle and is therefor located IN the gas tank, but that doesn't stop Lube places from telling me I should change it. The book though, tells me to tell them to hit the road....

And if they ain't got the fan clutch wrench you need, if you do, then see if the Ford one willl work on yours..it did on mine and it was 25 versus almost 80 for the Jeep one. AND some auto-parts stores will loan you the fan clutch tool kit for your vehicle: lay down a returnable deposit and voila - free tool to use and when you bring tool back, you get 100 percent money back. Advanced Auto Parts does that.
You start by disconnecting the positive battery cable. Then drain your radiator by loosening the petcock fitting on the bottom of the radiator. Drain fluid into a container and dispose of properly. You will have to remove both cooling fans, belt, the Power Steering unit, airbox, disconnect radiator hoses, there are only a few bolts that secure the water pump. NOTE: Always replace the thermostat when servicing the cooling system. It is a moderate job, taking three to five hours depending on your level of mechanical ability. It is by no means hard, and you should purchase a manual for torque specks and other important information. If you have a friend with mechanical knowledge, have them help you. Mechanics are simple, just maintain you composure when things get frustrating, and they will.
