Sounds like a fuel problem. First change the fuel filter. If the problem presists after this, look at other areas such as the fuel pump, fuel pressure regualator, etc.
A bad fuel pump will cause your vehicle to not start or sputter and then stall. A dirty air filter can have the same symptoms.

You need new wires, or distributor cap. Moisture can get into a cracked cap or cause wet wires where spark jumps from wire to wire, or wire to ground.
It might sputter and sound like it is trying.
sounds like a vacume leak! check your vacume lines and block off the brake booster line. may be a defective booster.

You Probley have a blowed head gasket.
Oil sputter is going to be a normal thing if the oil cap is not on while the engine is running. The engine should never be run with the oil cap open. The engine actually has less compression when the oil cap is open, and this could hurt the engine.
I have a 2003 mercury grand marquis will sputter around running 35 - 60 mph ?
MINE WAS DOING THE SAME THING AND IT WAS THE EGR VALVE!! THAT FIXED IT AND IT'S RUNNING GREAT!!:)GOOD LUCK

first check for a clogged fuel filter then look at the fuel pump.
