The special tool to push the piston into the brake caliper. A C-CLAMP. FIND OUT WHAT SIZE YOU NEED. FROM VIN NUMBER IN YOUR LEFT SIDE OF YOUR FRONT WINDSHIELD,THEN TAKE NUMBER TO AUTO STORE.SO THEY CAN GET YOURSELF A REPAIR MANUAL FOR YOUR CAR.IN MANUAL THEY WILL TELL YOU THE SIZE OF CALIPER,BY DIAMETER THEN YOU CAN BUY THE CORRECT C-CLAMP. AT Home Depot, FOR A FEW BUCKS INSTEAD OF MAJOR BUCKS,FOR SPECIAL TOOL.

How do you depress rear brake caliper on 2005 Ford Freestar?

You have to use a special tool to turn the piston in clockwise. The tool has two pins which match the two recess holes on the piston. Since the caliper is also the emergency brake you cannot just c clamp the piston back into the caliper bore. you should be able to rent the tool at your local autozone or autoparts store.

How do you calculate brake caliper piston displacement?

this can be calculated by measurements of the bore

How do you compress brake caliper piston for 2005 Kia Spectra?

You need a special brake piston tool to do this. Here is a link that shows what this tool looks like: http://www.lislecorp.com/tool_detail.cfm?detail=416 Basically, you put this on the end of a 3/8 inch drive, then use the side of the tool where the pins match your brake piston. Engage the pins from the tools into the piston slots, press in and turn clockwise. It will take a lot of turns to move it back in the bore.

How do you put the rear disc brake cylinder back in the caliper after it is been accidentally pushed out on a 1996 Ford Taurus?

If it has come out completely, lubricate the disc brake piston and the piston bore (in the caliper) with clean brake fluid. Make sure the dust boot is clean and is seated in the caliper. Using a turning motion (back & forth), roll the lip of the dust boot over the piston and push the piston into the caliper by hand as far as you can go. You'll need a c-clamp and a block of wood (or an old brake pad) so that you can push the piston all the way into the bore. Go slowly as you are pushing and keep an eye on the piston so that it goes in straight with no resistance. You don't want to damage the sides of the piston. If the piston goes to the bottom with no problem, seat the dust boot lip into the piston groove. You'll have to bleed the brakes once the pads are in and the caliper is reinstalled.

How do you compress the rear caliper on a 2001 infiniti i30?

The rear caliper compresses into the bore by rotating the face clockwise. You can do this with a special tool or with long, needle nose pliers. Unlike the front calipers, the piston extends and retracts on a spiral screw attached to the bottom of the caliper bore.

How do you get the piston back in on the brake caliper on a honda civic?

If you pulled the piston all the way out, make sure you lube the cylinder bore with brake fluid, not oil! Petroleum products will degrade some parts of the brake system.Twist the piston as you insert it, that way you will stand less of a chance of getting it cocked in the bore. The rubber boot or dust cover may get in the way.Bottom out the piston in the bore so it is easier to put the brake shoes on and, having done that and before you drive away, pump the brake pedal several times to fill the cylinder with brake fluid and seat the brake shoe against the rotor. If you are putting on new brake shoes and just need to push the piston back in the bore, the best way is to use a 4 inch "C" clamp - about 10 buck at an auto parts store

Why do Rear disc brake pads stay too tight against rotors causing rotors to overheat on 92 Lincoln town car?

Sounds Like: 1. Caliper Is Hanging Up (Not Letting Piston Go Back Into Caliper Bore. 2. Self Adjuster Not Working Properly. 3> The Emergency Brake Not Completly Releasing .....

What would cause rear brakes to get abnormally hot and smell like burnt rubber after a break change on a 1995 240sx?

Sounds like possibly seized caliper sliders or the piston is not retracted far enough (assuming the car has disc brakes in the rear), if the parking brake actuator is built into the caliper on that model, you may have to rotate the piston back into the bore to release the park brake, if it has a separate park brake, make sure it is adjusted properly and the cables are not seized.

What causes your brake caliber to go bad?

Answer: Brake calipers (front or rear) normally "go bad" because the dust seal was not replaced, thus allow dirt to get onto the piston as the brake linings wear down. When you go replace the linings and DON"T clean the piston, it allows the dirt to damage the caliper bore. NORMALLY, brake calipers leak and can be overhauled with a few sealing rings, and a good bleeding of the brake system.

What are the steps for changing the Back brakes for 2005 jeep liberty?

# Raise and support vehicle. # Remove the wheel and tire assemblies. # Compress the caliper # Remove the caliper slide pin bolts NOTE: Do not allow brake hose to support caliper assembly. # Remove the caliper by tilting the top up and off the caliper adapter # Support and hang the caliper. # Remove the inboard brake pad (1) from the caliper # Remove the outboard brake pad (2) from the caliper # Place an old brake shoe between a C-clamp and caliper piston. Bottom piston in the caliper bore with C-clamp. # Clean caliper mounting adapter and anti-rattle spring guide # Lubricate anti-rattle spring guides with Mopar brake grease. # Install anti-rattle spring guides NOTE:Anti-rattle spring guides are not interchangeable. # Install inboard brake pad to the caliper # Install outboard brake pad to the caliper # Tilt the top of the caliper over rotor and under adapter. Then push the bottom of the caliper down onto the adapter # Install caliper to the rotor and then install the caliper slide pin bolts, Install wheel and tire assemblies and lower vehicle, # Apply brakes several times to seat caliper pistons and brake shoes and obtain firm pedal. # Top off master cylinder fluid level.

How do you rebuild a brake caliper on a 1994 Chevy Lumina?

First let me say that braking system is a vital system that should never be short cut. I don't believe that a person should work on this system unless they are trained or have experience doing these type repairs. You can buy rebuilt calipers now so inexpensive many garages no longer do these type service at their shops. They prefer buy and install these items. Now with the answer.First you will remove the calipers and drain fliud from each caliper. Put plastic plugs on brake lines as not to lose fluid and introduce air in to Master Cylinder. Next push caliper pistons out of caliper bores and careful not to drop or scratch piston surface. Next remove old seals from caliper bores. Next clean bores with soapy water and brass brush.Next clean caliper pistons same way. Make sure all surface are dry and clean before assembly. Next use brake assembly lube to coat all surfaces in caliper bore and the surface of the pistons that are in the bore. Next place the new rubber seals in cailper bore with assembly lube and place dust boot on caliper piston. Insert piston into bore and push slow and even into bore until they reach bottom. Stretch dust boot over lip on cailper. You are now ready to reinstall and bleed brake system. Please heed my earlier warning if any doubt of you ability to perform this repair please take to a experience person for assistance.

Why do your front brakes stick?

It's often related to a damaged or broken dust seal on the piston, This allows water and dirt to get into the caliper bore or onto the piston causing corrosion and dirt buildup, which essentially seizes the piston. When brakes are applied, the piston presses the pad against the rotor, but won't release back into the bore.
