Italian socialists who differed with the main-line Socialist Party's anti-war (WWI) stance as well as hard-line nationalists. Also, many Fascists were war veterans. Fascism was a strange, convoluted mixture of right-wing symbolism (nationalism, respect for figure of authority) with a left-wing execution (totalitarian rule, view that elites have an enlightened dedication to the common good).

AnswerNazism had a particular appeal for:
  • Those unable to accept Germany's defeat in World War 1
  • Those resentful of the Armistice and the Versailles Treaty
  • Veterans unable to settle down to civilian life again
  • Groups whose economic viability was threatened - the lower ranks of the aristocracy, small shopkeepers, some craftsmen
  • Those who were preoccupied with fear of Communism
  • Extreme racists (anti-semites)
  • In 1930-33 some of the unemployed
  • People who believed far-fetched conspiracy theories

Among occupational groups, agricultural labourers and medical men (!!) figured very prominently.

Obviously, one could add to this list. It would be a mistake to think that Nazism appealed only to hardline racists.

Hitler also had admirers in the british royal family.

According to the theories of Adorno, Horkheimer and others, Fascism of all varieties had a particularly strong appeal to people with authoritarian personalities. (How sound this theory really is, is another matter).

Their countries were in a deep depression and the strong discipline of fascism worked on both countries.

The reason for WWII was the way France and England blamed WWI on Germany, which of course is not true. They took land, with there German speaking people, away from Germany and gave it to Poland and the low countries. Germany now stronger militarily, wanted their people and land back.

Germany, France and the UK were ready to sue for peace until President Wilson interfered and brought American troops to fight on the side of the French and English. Then of course the didn't need peace they had America's power to through around. So WWI ended with very harsh unrealistic terms for Germany. Hitler made it so they could be made whole again. Then once more the United States got involved in WWII by supplying arms, and weapons of war to one side, the British and Russians. Something Germany did not want or plan on.

The treatment of the Jews was horribly wrong,as also the Pols and Gypsies too.

"Fascism" is a term that has many definitions but most people use it to describe ultra right-wing, authoritarian and racist political beliefs. In that sense you could in hindsight call the Japanese WW2 leadership 'fascist', but fascism as a formal national ideology during WW 2 is closely connected to only Germany, Italy and Spain. No. A Nazi is a very specific kind of fascist, and fascism is a specific flavor of nationalist authoritarian government. Trump has proudly stated that he is a nationalist, and he has long favored authoritarian foreign leaders, and later in his administration, he has adopted an authoritarian and sometimes violent style that reminds many of fascism, but he has never adopted the specific ideology of the Nazis.
