The Aborigines were the first immigrants thousands of years ago. The next wave started with the First Fleet in 1788. After the discovery of gold in the 19th century, people came from all over the world. The next major wave of immigrants was post World War 2, mostly from Italy, and from Europe generally. Then in the 1970's, it was pretty much everybody who wanted to come here including refugees by legal and illegal means.

∙ 12y agowow, I've been told about my countries history so many times. but the basic idea of the first fleet was to get convicts out of England, as their jails were getting too full. (because back in those days you would go to jail for stealing bread). anyways, captain cook found this huge island continent and they started sending convicts over on ships. then other countries sent their convicts. then a goldrush happened and more people came and it just basically started from there....
