The calipers are held on with two 15mm bolts. Just take the calipers off, and then back out the two little washers on the lug nuts...and then hit the back of the rotor a couple of times with a rubber mallet and they'll pop right off. I did this yesterday and that part of it was a breeze. What's a little tougher is getting the caliper bolts aligned again to put them back on; use a screwdriver or whatnot and make a couple of little scratch marks to align the caliper again. Also, DO NOT TAKE THE DARN SPRING OFF of the caliper!! If you're having trouble getting the outboard pad in, just use a flat object such as a flathead screwdriver to pry the caliper open a bit to get the pad in. It took me 2 seconds to get that darn spring off and two hours to get it on again.
remove the brake caliper and the rotors come right off
they have to pressed out from a machine shop.
Yes , the 1999 Mercury Cougar is FRONT wheel drive
if you are driving and you go to stop, then that means that the front rotors are warped. if the front rotors are bad, you will feel a pulsation in pedal while applying brakes. change rotors on front.
For the 1999 cougar they have 2 different size brake rotors it sounds like you need the 276mm size
You remove the wheels, remove the brake caliper and the rotor is then free .
how to remove front rotors on 2003 Nissan fronter 4 wheel drive pick up
The 2.5 liter " Duratec " V6 engine used in a 1999 Mercury Cougar uses ( 2 ) timing CHAINS , both located at the front of the engine ( 1 chain to each cylinder head )
Sadly the replacement of front rotors on 95-99 accents require special tools anly availble at a service shop. Rotor replacement requires removal of the hubs and they are press fitted. Some shops have equipment to resurface the rotors while still installed on the vehicle if the rotors are not damaged.

nope grease cap is not threaded, can usually remove it with a big set of channel locks
