1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the engine cover.

3. Remove the engine undercover.

4. Remove the alternator drive belt.

5. Remove the alternator mounting bolts.

6. Remove the alternator from the engine.

To install:

1. Install the alternator and torque the upper bolt to 18-23 ft. lbs. (26-31 Nm) and the lower bolt to 33-38 ft. lbs. (44-52 Nm)

2. Install the drive belt. Properly tension the belt.

3. Install the engine undercover.

4. Install the engine cover.

5. Connect the negative battery cable.

You must access alt from bottom of car as it sits on bottom of motor, left side if facing from front. So get car on lift remove FL wheel remove the 2 bolts one on top and one on bottom slide bolts out pull down alt disconnect plug and cable nut. Getting alt out royal pain but flip and turn move hose till it will come out very tight fit but will come out without taking any hoses off replace with new. toke me 5 hours 1st time an experienced mechanic 2hrs if all goes well highly recomend getting on lift hardest repair I've ever done.

Hello,

The following is the procedure for removing the alternator on a 2000 Chevrolet Venture:

1. Remove or disconnect the following:

Negative battery cable

Wiper system module cover

Fuel injector sight shield

2. Rotate the engine forward.

3. Remove or disconnect the following:

Alternator terminal nut, lead and electrical connector

Serpentine belt

Power Steering pump and reposition it to gain access to the alternator

Alternator

Front bolts and two rear bolts

Alternator from the bracket

Serpentine belt tensioner

Bracket

Power steering pipes from the retainer

Fuel pressure test port cap from the injector rail

4. Install or connect the following:

Alternator

Power steering pump. Torque the bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).

Fuel pressure test port cap to the fuel rail

Power steering pipes to the retainer. Torque the fastener to 54 inch lbs. (6 Nm).

Alternator bracket. Torque the bolt to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).

Serpentine belt tensioner

Alternator to the bracket. Torque the bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).

Serpentine belt

Alternator electrical connector, lead and nut. Torque the nut to 115 inch lbs. (13 Nm).

5. Rotate the engine to its original position.

6. Install or connect the following:

Fuel injector sight shield. Torque the nut to 54 inch lbs. (6 Nm).

Wiper system module cover

Negative battery cable

7. Perform a charging system test and verify the proper operation of the system.

I just replaced mine and we had to go from underneath it. Once you disconnect all the bolts and wires you still have to remove the brackets around it so it will fit out.

First remove the plastic cover above the headlight.Then remove 3 10mm bolts that hot it in place,then unplug wire harness. You should be good to go
