pound them out with a hammer and then press the bottom 1 in first
you have to remove the spindle and press the old ones off
You need to remove the spindle and press out the ball joints & press in new ones
If you don't have a press take it to a shop and pay the $1000 trust me.
you have to remove it from the outside.after you remove the screws press the bulb and turn it to the left to remove.
This is a general procedure checklist for removing most balljoints on 4x4's. - Remove wheel - remove brakes/caliper/rotor - remove wheel bearing/hub assy/4x4 assy (some assy's don't need removing to replace ball joints, if able to get to joint) - need press to remove joints or a hammer, chisel and lot's of elbow grease. Usually torches make it easier. Or remove the spindle and take to a bench press to remove the ball joints. Most places I know do this. - installation is the reverse Ball joints on 4x4's are typically a job that cost's lot's and for good reason. The joints can be a real treat getting out. Good luck.
You need a ball joint press to do that job. Remove old ball joint with sledge hammer and press new on into control arm.
remove caliper,pads and axle nut if it is 4 wd. then remove upper ball joint nut then lower nut. You will then need to beat the spindle out, this will take a pretty good bit of force. once it is out Hammer out ball joints and reverse the procedure. ADDED: Do not use a hammer. Press out the old ones and press in the new ball joints. You can rent a ball joint press for free from Autozone. Test the balljoints for play before replacing as they may not be the source of the problem.
i suggest you replace upper and lowers at yhe same time, you will need a ball joint press either way. but you need to remove steering knuckle as a unit. then press in/out ball joints. not a big deal i you have the tools ,you also could bring the steering knucle to a shop have them press the ball joints in .then reinstall knuckle yourself.
I did mine on a Ram 2500 and I highly recommend that you have a press available, they dont screw in unfortunatly. To change uper ball joints; Remove tire Pull codder pin and remve nut Tap ball joint out of wheel/ brake assembly Remove upper control arm compleatly Use Press to push old ball joint out of controll arm. A torch may be nessisary to heat controll arm. Press new ball joint all the way into controll arm Reinstall every thing Get a professional front end alignment.
Some ball joints are pressed in and others are bolted in, it depends on your style ball joints.
First remove the steering knuckle completely from the truck. Then remove any circlips (snap rings.) Then, use a ball joint press to push the old ball joints out and new ones in. Replace any circlips. Assemble the rest. Get the wheel alignment adjusted.
You have to remove the brake drum, force out the broken stud and press fit in a new one.
