you probably broke the shifter cable. this is a metal cable that run from the shifter in your column to the prndl switch on the trans eay to fix and relatively cheap

there is a small cable in the steering column by the shifter arm it is probably broken
disconnect negative battery cable. remove small dash panel under steering column. remove the 2 nuts on either side of column directly under dash. Disconnect harness connections. with hood of vehicle raised, under brake booster the column is secured with a nut and bolt. Inside of vehicle behind brake pedal and under the carpet the column has 4 bolts fastened to firewall. to keep steering wheel centered be careful not to rotate when column is removed.

It is an easy fix. remove the panel under the steering column, and spray silicon lubricant on the shift lever that extends out of the column that the shift cable is attached to. 9 times out of 10 this will be the problem.
