Thank god for this group. The answer to this question is posted about 9 FAQ's down under "how do you remove the metal strip from the rear view mirror of a Chevy S-10". So just in case some one is waiting for a reply I repeat this fellows life saving reply, its not mine all the credit is his . He also saved me from damaging an expensive mirror complex. You have to push fairly hard Its just an angled flexible metal plate . you cant hurt it just push hard one way & the tab slides the other.
"I just went through the ordeal of getting the metal tab off of the mirror for my 1994 Chevy S-10, so if yours is anything like mine, here's how to get that sucker off: Insert a small enoughstandard screwdriver into the rectangular slot in the bottom of the mounting bracket. Inserting it straight back, simultaneously push with the screwdriver against the piece of metal that it will touch and press against the metal tab in the opposite direction (the one it needs to go in to come out of the bracket) until it comes off. Once you get it off you may be chagrined when you see the simplicity with which it was kept in there ;)"
I could not find a screwdriver that would fit but an L shaped hex wrench in my toolkit worked fine. As stated, be sure to insert into the slot that comes all of the way to the bottom of the mirror mount and push HARD.
