i wouldn't do it the vortec heads will have a diffrent port for the intake and intake mounting so you would need to replace the whole top end and in the big motors you can run into push rod angle problems but prolly not in a 78 easiest way to get the power you want is to put aluminum heads on or a power package from edelbrock, weiand, world, summit, jegs, or anyother major company
No. The 350 has bigger valves. While you CAN put the 305 heads on the 350, (I can't imagine why you would actually want to) you can NOT put the 350 heads on the 305. Because of the 305's small bore, the valves on the 350 heads will hit the cylinder block.
there is no adapter. vortec heads were cut at a diffrent slope than standard sbc heads. you can swap the heads on the 78 350 for vortech heads or get a multipoint fuel injection intake for a 85 - 95 350. you can get the intake from summitracing.com You will have to swap the heads and the intake
No! The angle of the intake bolts are not the same. Also The vortec heads will make more hp so you probably will not want to use standard Heads..
you can as long as you use your TBI heads if you want to use the vortec heads with TBI you will need a special intake manifold or a carb manifold with a adapter to mount your throttle body to the carb manifold heres some more info TBI heads will mount to the vortec block TBI intake manifold has 12 bolts vortec intake manifold has 8 bolts
Yes, but I don't know why you would want to use them on a 350. 305's are limited as far as valve size is concerned because their small bore causes clearance problems with the large valve heads... Larger valves will actually hit the block on a 305. Just about ANY 350 head is better than ANY 305 heads.
You have to becareful on some heads. I think when the Throttle body came out 87 they changed the angle of the four inboard bolt holes, more of an up word angle for better socket connection to tighten. And if you get the Vortec heads then you have to replace the intake manifold as well cause they, I mean the Vortec heads don't have the four inboard bolt holes. My suggestion is to get a Chiltons or Haines book on that model of truck. There they give details on doing the process of head R&R. Now some after market kits will come with instructions, key word some. You might want to contact them and see if they have if you don't see anything in the box.
With iron heads, the stock spec for iron intakes of 30ft-lb should do. If you are going into aluminum heads, you do not want to go very tight, maybe 20ft-lb or so. AFR recommends just making them "snug" when installing an intake and exhaust headers on their aluminum small block heads.
They want you to put old stock in front and new stock in back.
Yes, but running a 350 cam with 305 heads is not effective, you need to run 350 heads as well. In order to benefit from a 350 cam you need something to flow that extra fuel and air, so using 350 heads along side of the 350 cam will be the cheapest and best choice. HAVE FUN!! A 350 head can physically bolt onto a 305 block. However, 350 heads can have the valves extend into the cylinder and contact the cylinder wall (even with the smaller 305 cam). The 350 cam in the 305 with stock heads will work. You wont want to use 350 heads you will lose compression due to the largers combustion chambers.
