What are the negative and positive impact of Colonialism in West Africa?

The positive impact of colonialism in West Africa came as a result of the avoidance of long standing tribal hostilities due to the occupation of a strong, European presence. The British also took steps to set up an infrastructure that helped in the development of the states after they had won their independence. However, on the negative side, the citizens saw Natural Resources ripped from their country, which they did not share in. The Imperialists established a form of racial separatism which denied the native people access to many of the opportunities that were available for the imperialists. Territorial orders were changed by the imperialists that placed long time enemies in the same areas, resulting in tribal warfare after independence.

massive social disintegration ; lots of Nigerian were taken (permit me to say exported, because some of them were sold out by their leaders, due to the intense pressure by the British) to Europe to become slaves ( labor force), this affected Nigeria's population and it also had huge effects on the economy of the country.

Old colonial mentality ; lots of Nigerians and even Africans have the inferiority complex due to the colonialism of the country.

The people in Africa at the time didn't like the look of the "White man" and so they didn't want them in their country. Just like now a days if their is a ruler we don't like don't vote for them or just over throw them.
