There are a further ten countries who are non-permanent members of the Security Council and are elected for two-year terms (five new countries are elected each year and replace the previous five).
In 2009, the ten elected members are Croatia, Libya, Vietnam, Burkina Faso, Costa Rica, Austria, Turkey, Uganda, Japan and Mexico (the first five are members from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2009 and the susbsequent five are members from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010).
