Illinois Iowa Wisconsin Michigan Indiana Ohio Pennsylvania New York Massachusetts Connecticut Rhode Island Maine Vermont New Hampshire were all the Free states at this time. The free "territories" were Minnesota Washington and Oregon. California was also a free state.
They all cost a lot more right now.

∙ 11y agoKansas, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Minnesota, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Washington D.C. All the states in the North and West Virginia separated from Virginia in 1861 and joined the Union in 1863. The Union are free states. Confederate states are slave states and North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Arkansas were slave states that seceded. Delaware, Kentucky, Missouri and Marry land were slave states that did not join the confederacy.
