How do you set the throttle position sensor?

Not enough info. Please ask new question and include the year, make, model, and engine size.

What is an 'idle cylinder'?

An idle cylinder refers to the state when the engine is not coupled with the drivetrain and with throttle pedal not depressed. There is rotational speed but it is not enough to move the vehicle.

How do you tell you have a bad throttle position sensor on a 2000 ford crown victorai?

The vehicle in question is new enough such that it contains an (On-Board diagnostics system) OBD which may generate specific trouble codes for faulty components. Using an OBD scan tool (available at local auto parts stores), scan the vehicle for trouble codes. If you can access the sensor yourself, it may be possible to measure the output voltages or resistances which ultimately allow the engine computer to determine the throttle position.

Why does a diesel engine not produce enough vacuum?

As a diesel engine does not have a throttle valve in the air intake, no useable depression is created in the intake manifold. That is why diesel engines are fitted with vacuum pumps to operate the brake servo.

How much throttle play should the throttle have?

Not very much. Only enough so the throttle shuts all of the way when released in most cases.

How do you replace a throttle position sensor on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The exact placement of the throttle position sensor will depend on your specific engine but generally its located on the side of the throttle body below the air intake tube on top of the engine. To replace simply remove the air intake duct (usually one plastic screw), locate the sensor, disconnect wire plug in, remove the two sensor mounting screws (torx screw variety, size not remembered) and the sensor will come off. When replacing be sure to line up the throttle shaft with the proper groove inside the sensor...it should just slip in there pretty easily with a little bit of wiggling. Reinstall doing the reverse of the above. Remember, in order for people to give you the best answers you should send your questions with enough information. In this case for example it would have been appropriate to state the type of engine that you have ie: .... Grand Cherokee with 5.2 liter V8.

Why does my 1991 corvette idle fine give it gas and it peters out replaced plugs wires cap rotor map sensor throttle position sensor IAC O2 sensors?

It probably wouldn't be sucking enough fuel quick enough

How do cars accelerate?

When you push in on the throttle, the engine burns the fuel to create energy. This energy is then transfered from the engine to either the rear, front, or all four wheels. This energy spins the tires with enough force to push the car forward.

What is trouble code p1120 - p0120 and the Throttle Position Sensor - TPS - Windstar?

The trouble code #P1120 means:Throttle motor position sensor 1-Circuit malfunction Major auto parts chain told me my TSP (Throttle position sensor) was bad due to the Check Engine Llight (CEL) being lit up - a P1120 DTC.$40 and 10 minutes to replace - ((_#*&$ light came right back. A few days ago, after doing some more reading & investigating of my own, I bought a $4 can of throttle body spray cleaner - used 1/2 the can on my 98 Sable - voila! CEL is gone again! Since this sensor is located at the top of the engine, it is very likely you will be able to replace it yourself.Ask at auto parts store to see a diagram of the part's location. The throttle position sensor, TPS, is mounted on the front of the throttle body with 2 screws, and has a 3 wire connector going into it.The throttle body is the metal unit the air filter housing connects to on the left-side, and also has the gas pedal cables going into it.Simply disconnect the wire harness, remove the 2 screws (tighten a bit before unscrewing to break them loose) - reverse steps to install.Note that Autozone.com has detailed testing procedures that appear easy enough to confirm if the TPS requires replacement. See "Related Links" below. It is attached with 2 screws to the front of the throttle-body - top side of the engine. Rather small with a 2 wire connector going to it.Easiest part to access where the air duct attaches to the throttle body. I believe the voltage is supposed to be 0.5 closed and 5.0 open once that is obtained use a OBD scan tool to clear the code or disconnect the battery long enough to reset it however if you disconnect the battery it will take 40 to 100 miles of travel on the road to pick up all the sensors again and this can sometimes be a head ache TPS IS THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR

What would cause a 98 eagle talon bog down at full throttle but catch back up when you let off?

poor manufacture engine part, the engine is not moving enough air with the fuel, therefore causing it to either work on 4 cylinders instead of a full engine.

What is cause of lurch when shifting from first to second gear in 2003 Chevrolet cavalier?

Assuming it is a manual transmission, it sounds like you aren't giving it enough throttle before you are releasing the clutch. You are just experiencing engine braking while the tires are actually spinning faster than the engine rpms. Give it a bit more throttle and let the clutch out a bit slower and see what happens.

Can you blow a 4 cycle motor up by turning it off at full throttle?

No; turning it off stops the fuel supply and spark ignition cycle. It does not cause the engine to immediately absorb the energy that was being produced, so there is not enough energy to stress anything to the point of fracturing. Turning the engine off at full throttle has the same effect as turning the engine off at half throttle except there are more revolutions per minute (RPMs) being generated, so it takes longer to stop. It would certainly damage the turbo if fitted.
