driver's side, through the block.
Older engines have the dipstick on the driver's side. There is a hole in the side of the block between 5 & 7. Newer ones have the dipstick tube in the passenger side of the oil pan.
it should go in threw the head on the driver side but some go in threw the block on the passenger side
GM. made a left and right side dip stick 350 block, and a 305 small block, and big blocks. It could be on either side of the engine.
There is about an 8" tube shoved into a hole in the block on the driver's side between 5 & 7. The dipstick fits into the tube.
It goes into a hole on the driver's side of the block between #5 and #7. There is an indentation in the head casting to make room for it.
no on a 350 it is on the driver side and on a 305 it is on the passenger side
The only snag that I can think of is the sterring colum. We are about to do the same thing with my sons 86 transam-firebird. Maybee we can keep in touch with each other. cc@austin.rr.com Carlton - aka mach1dude I put a left side dipstick engine in a right side dipstick pickup truck once. There was a problem getting around the left side exhaust manifold. If you plan to use headers it should be pretty simple.
It's a thin sheet metal tube that you can work back and forth from the top to remove it. If it breaks off you'd need to push it out from the bottom.
It should be on the passenger side back by the firewall.
