To replace a hood latch on a 1995 F-150, the old hood latch will have to be cut out with a blow torch. The new hood latch will have to be welded in place. Securing with bolts after welding will make the hood latch stronger than that of the original.

I had to do this on my 97 Ford Explorer a month ago or so. It's easy. You should be able to go through the grill from the outside and unscrew the four bolts or so on the hood release mechanism (reassuring huh?) From there, lift the hood and the latch mechanism should come out with the hood. Detach the cable from the latch mechanism(if your cable is fine, you're in great luck) Take the latch to a junkyard and find one that looks similar(same position of bolt holes, and latch) Attach the cable to the new latch, attach the new latch to your car, it might take a while positioning it so it lines up right but I did it myself for only fifteen bucks.(cost of latch at junkyard from a different pickup).

need pictures. First remove the front grill assembly (usally six screws). You will be able to see underneath the hood latch. Get an old wire coat hanger and bend a hook in one end, work this underneath the latch until you grab the latch and pull sideways (to the right) until the latch pops. You may have to do this several times but it will work. I had to do it on my 94 Buick. Go to a junkyard and pick up a used cable assembly and install it. Good luck. . I used the same coathanger to open the hood instead of running a new cable . I hook it up to the connector on the hood latch , ran it out thru the grill and place a small handle on the coat hanger and it opens right up. boy am i cheap

Remove the grill to access the broken cable. Cut the cable or see if the latch can be pushed manually. Broken cables have to be replaced totally. There are 2 or 3 screws under the dash and you will have to remove the bottom dash panel if it is still there. There are several plastic clips under the hood that can be reused, just follow the cable to find them. and there is a rubber grommet on the cable holding it in the firewall, this can be pushed into the car from under the hood and the new one pushed back in with a screwdriver. Other than that it is easy to remove the old cable from the latch and install the new one. You can get a good cable fairly cheap from a junk yard, just make sure the one you get is not damaged or corroded. Or if you prefer, a new replacement cable can be used.
I may have broken my 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am's hood latch. I pulled, popped the hood. Lifted hood and pulled again. A little washer pinged off, & the cable + T handle now hang. Sat 25 years from previous owner, under a tarp. ANY HELP APPRECIATED?

Fiero Front Hood Release?
The fiero front hood release cable has an extra cable tucked inside the release lever housing. If they're both broke then you'll have to use a crowbar and lightly pry up on the hood but be extremely carefull not to break the fiberglass hood. Take a long flat tipped screw driver and remove the foam padding around the latch then take a 10mm stubby wrench and remove the 2 bolts holding the latch to the car then just raise the hood and trip the latch. Remove the old cable and install a new one.
